I live in australia. Catholocism here prevents legislation about gay marriage and rights (yay for me) (and i HAVE been discriminated against by catholics firsthand for this) but it also holds back legislation on refugees and asylum seekers, encouraging people to be more xenophobic.
Not all christians are homophobic and xenophobic! I know this! My best friend AND my girlfriend are catholic. I'm certainly generalising, but I am speaking for a majority.
And if society is becoming less homophobic, tell me why it still gets capital punishment in 9 countries, and why here in Australia, i can't open a bank account, get a loan, or get private health insurance with my girlfriend?
I think you're speaking from a middle-ground perspective.
A terrorist attack is an isolated incident. A war is like day-to-day life.
Think about it in terms of Chinese water torture. Sure, one drip is annoying, but its the three hundred that follow it and the dread that precedes each one that finally drives you insane.
