How do YOU keep from getting frustrated and stay positive and active while keeping your eye's open to the problems and hurt in the world?

There are two basic types of politically involved people. The Make it Betters (MIB's) and the Leave me Alones (LMA's). The MIB's wield the power of government to make it all better for everyone even if it means taking the private property from one to be given to another (democrats, liberals, progressives, socialists, communists et. al.). The LMA's realize that while they're free to give time and money to charity, the world will never be perfect because humans aren't perfect and spending too much time and effort trying to control other peoples lives (which is required to make it better for them), the LMA's pretty much sit back and chill. I'm an LMA.

How young is too young to voice opinions on how our country should be run?

24 - The average human doesn't begin to reason until 25. Unreasonable people rely on emotions and very often, votes based on emotions enslave us.

How can we help companies hire more people over the age of 50?

"We" can't do anything. Those who're over 50 need to do what they must to ensure they're hireable. (i.e. acquire the skills and knowhow that's attractive to companies)

Being gay is your choice. It's when it becomes all that you are and you let it define you and most of what you write or talk about when it gets annoying. Amirite?
Saying "don't judge me" isn't going to stop anybody from judging them, amirite?

And it should not stop anyone from judging them. Everyone judges. And those who claim they don't are liars to themselves first and foremost.

There's no fear quite like the fear of losing a loved one, amirite?

Actually it's the only thing many of us fear.

Your life changed when you found you had no gag reflex, amirite?
@TicTacAddict More like my boyfriend's life changed.

Says the person with the screen name TicTacAddict. XD

There is a defect in a person who writes and speaks near-incessantly about their sexual orientation regardless of their orientation.

I might clarify that I have befriended many people who're gay. I've no problem with homosexuality. It seems however the knee-jerk misunderstanding by many occasionally open-minded people here is to vote this one down irrespective of its truth.

Just for fun and to start an interesting thread, please list your favorite song of ALL TIME - any genre.

Way more than one but, as of this moment I'll write Tool – Vicarious and Before the Dawn – Closure.

Human nature is essentially good, amirite?
Human being's are naturally and intuitively cooperative. It is only when children are (incorrectly) taught that humans are innately bad [because of original sin or by some other fault of nature] that we start to reason in a selfish manner. Constant false warnings that we need to protect ourselves from temptations and from others who are out to get us makes people suspicious and overly protective of material possessions. Selflessness has been demonstrated in other cultures and in blind scientific studies conducted in the west. The belief that humans are selfish is a failure of western society. Selfishness is not an inherent human trait.

Sharing is a cultural behavior. Sharing throughout the natural world is the exception until a group makes it the norm. There was a article recently in Scientific American extolling a sweeping study that celebrated certain primate troops demonstrating communal sharing (a publication of the renowned Nature magazine for those unfamiliar). Buried and briefly mentioned is that this is not the norm and that it's a trait either shared or passed down.

I submit we should celebrate our ability and tendency to resist our natural selfishness and cooperate instead.

I also offer that sometimes, in asking others to oppress reason if only temporally to embrace the doe-eyed idea that we're naturally altruistic is little more than the unabashed promotion of a foundational aspect of their overall worldview.

Among several of my search criteria was, “humans naturally selfish”. As with most other searches we see the use of phrases such as, “seems to indicate”, some biologists find”, etc..

Concluding with: just as with foxes, a mere 30 years of selective breeding yields an ideal fox-dog human companion; those who cooperate naturally are more apt to survive so – let's keep it up!
