+371 We are so lucky. If we were in Africa, we may have to walk miles to get water. Here, we just turn on the faucet. Sometimes you just forget how lucky you are, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They just need to have built their village closer to water and they wouldn't have to walk

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The point is, not just water, but everything else is harder for them.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You, my ignorant friend, are an idiot. Do me a favor: Never get kids, I don't think anyone wants your genes to spread.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You guys can go fuck yourself! Seriously!!! Fuck you! I hate you people thinking that africa is full of poor black people who live in villages and shit! Africa looks the same as america!! Except we have more wildlife! Cape town looks like new york! So stop asuming africa is a fucking village!! Please go on google earth or something! And yes africa has google too!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We do not need this language, Eaglemen. You have the right to say what you want, but I believe a better choice would have been stating your opinion in a polite manner.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's ok, just next time, really, really think about who looks at this site. ;) I trust you'll do better next time.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Eaglemen, I have requested that this post be deleted for you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We're not going to delete it just because it offended someone. People on this site get offended way too easily anyway.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, I feel like a meanie butt. ;((

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Believing a common stereotype doesn't make you mean. It just means you're gullible :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I did a whole project on Ethiopia, and everything there is not the best. The average Ethiopian income is $92 a year!! Read that in a book, I did not see it on TV.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Every country has its issues. And are you sure that that is in perspective of American $? For example the value of American money to Haitian money is 2:1.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, I am very sure that is in the prospective of an american dollar. But think about that, Ethiopia still has the problems of Women Rights, as in most people do believe women are nothings. Here, The basic issue we have with women rights is people making jokes about it. The point is, there are lots of poor countries in Africa, and there is a fine line of poverty there, too. Not saying that we don't have poverty, but I do believe we have a bit better than them.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Alright. I'm hardly an expert on Africa. lol. My knowledge base has officially been tapped.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Lol, okay. Thank you for your opinion. Have a nice day.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Likewise. It was a pleasure.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

maybe things in Ethiopia are suuuuper cheap, u never know

by Anonymous 13 years ago

To be fair, most of what we Americans see of Africa is what the TV shows us, which is that stereotype that you hate so much. More and more it seems people expect the television to do their thinking for them :/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think what we all need to keep in mind is that America is a country, while Africa a continent. Huge difference. Africa has 54 separate countries. That's 54 separate economies, guys, so there will be people who are living pretty much like us, and people who are very poor. There are very poor people in Mexico, too, a country within the U.S.'s own continent. Also, am I going to make the mistake that because I have traveled around Southeast United States, I know all about the climate of the continent? No. I have never seen anything like the near-desert features of the Southwest or what it's like in Canada, or the varying climates of Mexico (and, yes, there are jungles in Mexico). As for Africa, because of how much land north-to-south it covers (5,000 miles), it has a very diverse climate. Yes, in the North there are deserts and steppes and things of that sort, but in the center you can find rainforests and savannas.

Don't assume that just because wherever you live in Africa is civilized, the rest of it is. Not everywhere is the same. Think of Asia with the range of lifestyles from Russia to Thailand and Indonesia. Vastly different lives, and vastly different geography.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm sure that not all parts of Africa are like wherever @Eagleman is at, the poster meant less fortunate parts of Africa, not all of Africa

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm a South African. -humiliated face at Eagleman- We're sitting at a coffee shop, in a mall, in Pretoria (the country's capitol). I can imagine how the television in America has portrayed this diversely beautiful continent. And I say this knowing that there ARE extremely poor people who work their asses off just for water. As we are the host for the FIFA World Cup, you can imagine how advanced the infrastructure is, compared to other third world countries. If you have ever had the opportunity to visit our country, you should be familiar with the hospitality it offers (in exchange for your greens, of course ;) it's just business). The harsh conditions and extreme poverty people endure is the reality. Therefore, I salute you with the infamous proverb: TIA -- This is Africa.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(KrugerOtto) Couldn't have said it better myself. Mzanzi FTW :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thanks for backing me up, guys.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I am a South African and some parts of Africa are developed with huge cities such as Cape Town and some are not with many living in poverty, for example some villages in Zambia I have visited. It's a large mixture. You don't need to argue because not all of Africa is amazingly developed and not all of it is about huts. Peace :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

oh my god you must be the most ignorant person i've ever seen in my life.. what the hell, if you've ever been to Africa in your life i will be surprised! i'm in Africa right now, so don't tell me i don't know. I'm in Africa, on my computer, on the internet, watching TV drinking water and eating American food, all that you can buy here. Honestly, don't tell me that some place are rural. Even so, you act as if water is the hardest thing to get. There's places you can't get water all over the world so why does Africa have to be so stereotyped? Jesus, this pissed me off. Please get your facts straight. and i feel bad for the 255 idiots that agreed with you. Get to Africa then talk.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Crap I feel bad just please I tried to get it deleted!! *holds back tears*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yea i'm sorry about that you must feel bad, but don't worry. Sorry i got so pissed but honestly you don't know how annoying it is when you go back home and people are like oh how's the jungle, do you live in a hut? do you ride an elephant to school -.- sooooooo terrible.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

dude. we get it. one person correcting her mistake is enough. she obviously feels pretty bad about it. jeez

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm serious tho someone please delete this. PLEASE. I AM BEGGING YOU!!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

calm down its only a website you're still awesome:)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thanks I know but I still feel suckish there is like 20 billion people yelling at me :/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My god, people get so fucking bent out of shape over stupid things on the internet said by someone they don't know and has no bearing over their life. Chill the fuck out people. Damn.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm sorry, you're just plain stupid. I live in Africa, and no it's not full of poor black people living in huts and having to walk 5 miles to get some water. Yes, there are many places with no water etc. but people don't exactly live in those places any more. Please remember that Egypt is also in Africa, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, and many other countries which are considered some of the richest countries in the world. It is annoying whenever I see someone saying "I'm so so lucky that I don't live in a COUNTRY like Africa, who can't find water to drink!" and shit. Note that I said country. Yeah, some people are stupid and uneducated enough to say that Africa is a country when in-fact, it is a continent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm a south african and americans ignorance amuses me. but i blame the media. they never show the beauty of africa. but you can't generalize. i feel sorry for you cause i think you had good intentions with your post. mwah... xoxoxo
