+401 It doesn't make sense for people to be mad at new fans of an artist just because they became fans through a popular song. They should be happy for the artist's success, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But the thing is nearly all of them don't TRULY love the artist.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Exactlyyy. They love that one song, so on their mind, they just LOVE the artist.

unless, you know, they actually start liking the band and not that one song. just sayin.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh I know but there are people out there that since they like one song, they like the whole artist and claim to be huge fans when really they only know their most popular song.

You are absolutely right, OP; to begrudge an artist you admire their hard-earned success is childish and selfish. It's so annoying when people act as if they're better fans for it somehow; I bet the band would tell you to fuck off if you said "I wish you guys weren't so popular; I can't make myself seem cooler by mentioning you now because everyone knows who you are"... because that's what it comes down to. Other people liking what you like, for whatever reasons, would have no effect on a true fan.

*coughcough* the cataracs and dev *cough* you kinda feel like 'well why didn't you like them when i told you about them before??' on that front its a bit exasperating =/ but on the other hand its like 'omg they might get more money now and be able to make *more* songs and do tours to *this* country and...!'

true, but to blow up as an artist, you need to sell out. thats how the music industry works. there is rarely an occassion where that doesnt happen.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, you don't need to sell out to blow up! Unless you're a "put-together-by-a-studio" gimmick band, which means you sold out before you even started, the selling out usually comes later, when the "new thing" changes and the band isn't happy with just their hardcore fans; when a band changes it's style to stay mainstream, THAT is selling out.

Everyone becomes a fan through popular songs, those are the songs that are getting regular play and are more likely to reach more people The issue isn't how people learn about the band, it's about people who claim to be fans when really the only songs they like are the popular ones.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, it's just annoying because they only like that song, not the actual band. They only like the popular ones, not any of the other ones.
