+369 Dogs don't know their name; they only recognize the high-pitched voice you call them in, amirite?

They know syllables too

Not true. My dog doesn't reply to toaster, Steve, bacon, or rabblerouser, but she does respond to her name.

Incorrect. My dogs are relatively smart and only respond to their names. Except for my silky. She responds to "stupid", ironically enough.

My dog thinks "talk" means "walk" and she responds to words that sound like her name in addition to her own name. She would respond to words that sound like "leash," too. How they respond to you is indicated by your tone of voice. They'll be happy if you're happy and repentive if you're angry. That has nothing to do with the words they know.
