I know most girls would prefer that, but I personally would rather text or db that way I don't have to deal with theof awkwardness of them seeing my shocked face, possibly tears, and the "ok... um, well bye then". Plus I could console myself by thinking the jackass didn't even have enough respects or the cojones to tell me in person. I would want it to be in person if it had been a long term serious relationship though, because I wouldn't mind the awkwardness as much and it would hurt more if I thought they didn't respect or care enough to do it in person, whereas if we hadn't been going out as long that would have actually.made me feel better.

Well I don't see the guy I like in person (we go to different schools). How the hell are we supposed to ask each other out then?

That could be the exception, but if you like each other you would probably hang out after school at some point. In that situation, I think getting asked out in person would be a lot better because you don't normally see each other on a regular basis anyways.
