+402 It doesn't make sense that in America, we call people from Asia Asians, we call people from Europe European, and we call people from Latin-American Latino, but we call people from Africa African American. amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

because if we called them african they'd be like "OH HELL NAWWW,WHAT"D YOU JUST SAY CRACKA? I SHOULD KICK YOUR ASS RIGHT NOW,sHANIQUA COME CHECK THIS SKINNY NIGGA!" and who wants that?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i would :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's what they prefer to be called. Plus usually the others are actually immigrants. If they actually were born in Africa in this generation we call them African.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, that's what society prefers for them to be called. And the majority of Asians, Latinos, and Europeans I know were born in America.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Excuse me but every Black person I've talked to say that that's what they prefer. And I see the opposite.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why? Why do they prefer that?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't know, it's not like I'm telling everyone to call me Caucasian.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We call BLACK people African Americans, not AFRICAN people

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I obviously meant black people in America.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We call Africans that are American "African Americans." Other nationalities/ races are still "Asian American," "Mexican American," etc. Africans that are in Africa are obviously Africans.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thank you! Actual people from Africa hate people called African American, because they're not. They were not born here. (race)-American refers to a person who was born in the united states, i.e. Asian American, Mexican American, African American, etc.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

When have you ever heard someone call someone Asian American, even if that person was born in America? Everyone only calls them Asian. But if there is someone African who was born in America, no one would just call them African. That's what doesn't make sense.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because they're african american. -.- If they aren't born here, they are african. I myself prefer the term black, but that's just me. If 'society' decided what's 'politically correct' is to call people (race)-american then YOU can say that's right. I will continue to live my life based on MY beliefs.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I am saying that what is politically correct is inconsistent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I am not saying we should call people who aren't from America American. I am saying that it seems odd that we incorporate one ethnicity as "American," but other ethnicities in America are simply called by that ethnicity.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's the same thing with Hispanic people. If you call someone from Venezuela Mexican they will kill you, people just seem to dwell on the whole black/african american thing.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We should all just be called Americans.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Samantha Jane): I would agree with that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I wonder... If I moved to England, do I get to be called an American-Briton? Nope, because I'm not a minority, and those who aren't minorities don't get to have "pride", or else it's politically incorrect. Imagine how things would go down if there was a "Whites Heritage Month", or a "White Pride" parade.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thank you, Murkrow. White peopleare actually about to become a minority.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Samantha Jane): Even then we won't be allowed to have pride, 'cause we'll still be white.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If you're african american, you're a black person born in the U.S. But if you're african, you were born in africa.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Duh. That doesn't really have anything to do with my post though.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Can I just comment that people can't actually be from Latin. There is no place called Latin. People can be Latin and be called Latinos but they are not from a specific country. Latinos are from different spanish countries.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why did you say that? Latinos are from Latin-America.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

nope, we call then niggers

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well they were slaves and all forgot there culture and religion and developed in the american world.they are totally different from the africans in south africa. So they need there own name also even if they mixed race in america they still called african american in SA they coloured

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thats stupid they are call african american is they are of african decent but they are born american otherwise if they are an african citizen they are still called african

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why is everyone saying that???? In the beginning of the post I specifically said "In America."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

...We don't. If someone were to call an African an African-American, I'd have the urge to slap them. It is weird how people who were born in America and are of a minority other than black don't have the -American at the end, though.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thank you, that was the point of my post.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I have a friend who actually is FROM Africa, South Africa to be exact. But she would never be called African-American, because she has white skin. It's messed up, as she is the most truly AFRICAN-AMERICAN person I know. And if you're of European descent, people don't actually call you "European". They call you white. LAME.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you forgot australians...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

People from Africa and African-Americans are totally different. African-Americans trace their American roots back to 1690 when the Dutch colonized the Northeast before losing it to the British. So many black families have been here longer than white families, as there were far more slaves than colonists. So think about how long YOUR family has been here and who really deserves to be called American.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We all should be called American.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

nigga pleeze

by Anonymous 13 years ago

African Americans lost their culture. We lost our language, our religion, and our traditions and identity. If any race in the U.S is the most American, it would be the African Americans, which is sad really because we forgot who we are. Africans (who are born in Africa) want to be called Africans. Yeah, we African Americans should be called African but I think people would just get confused. Like...Obama...I would call him African honestly because he's like...first generation African, right? Yeah, his momma is American i suppose but he's really an African, and has more of the "straight outta Africa" traits.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Does is fuckin matter?yall are racist and make this site crap to where people don't even want to come visit it , and you put -American after all races check an application to something that's government or federal. Not all black people have names like "shaniqua" you racist pricks. Black people like being called black or African American , I doesn't matter , but being called a ” nigger or nigga" is out of line unacceptable. And nobody cares about the weak ass KKK members , my president is black BITCH! Therefore your thoughts and opinion don't matter and are un needed

by Anonymous 13 years ago

When asked for your ethnicity on government or federal documents it says " (race)- American" it has Mexican American and African American

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's probably true, but that phrase is never used except in professional political documents.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

what are you talking about...? im from america, and i call africans african.... because they are. dumbshit

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Really? You've never called someone African American?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Don't no where u live but to me it's black people white people yellow man and mexicans. Politically correctness is not really applied in the south

by Anonymous 13 years ago
