+563 Teachers need to quit complaining about how much they get paid, they knew how much they were going to make before they chose that as a job. (besides they only work max 200 days a year.) amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

YOU ARE SO RITE! also remember they can get a summer job, and make even more money! plus they get "prep" period, which I know half my teachers dont even use, because we correct our own homework, tests, quizes, ect...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

200 days working and half of them complaining to students about how tired they are and how underpaid they are

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This is such crap. Teachers have to deal with students who don't care, management that doesn't care, and parents that care too much. My mother teaches special ed and she has to change diapers on teenage kids. Kids who don't know what they're doing have attacked her. And most of them don't work 200 days a year, because they can't get by on a teacher's salary so they have to get a job for the summer. She does this because she cares about the students and wants them to grow up to live happy lives, but little fucks like you can't appreciate it, and say her job is easy and that if she wanted more money, she knew what she was getting into. She wanted to make a difference in the world and she has, and she shouldn't get paid for that?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well yes I agree. But as the next post said, I don't think the Post was talking about Special Ed teachers. My sister too is a Special Ed teacher so i know where youre comming from. But she dose it because her daughter is in Special Ed

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree with you completely. My mom is also a teacher (though not a Special Ed teacher, so I can't completely relate), and I honestly don't know how she manages to deal with so many complete idiots without losing her mind. She's almost constantly dealing with parents, sorting out lesson plans, grading work, ect... It's a far more demanding job than people seem to think.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh, I just love how you said, "they can't get by on a teacher's salary". Thats absurd. My mum is a single parent and a nurse (who gets paid a lot less then a teacher). She doesn't even have a second job and she still supports our family. (Herself, my sister and me.) I'm guessing a lot of teachers have partners, who get paid. And even if they don't, its not that they CAN'T get by its that they don't choose to. If they cut down on things they don't really need, you'd probally find they can get by.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I am SO **(TIRED)** of you TEACHERS always CRYING about how things are SO BAD, and the LONG hours that teachers work! If teaching for YOU is SO BAD, then (QUIT)! You took the JOB and you should have known what YOU are getting into! TEACHERS get so MANY (DAYS OFF)...from HOLIDAYS, to SUMMER days off! And don't try an sell us because you don't get PAID for the SUMMER days off! You teachers get PAID an **(ANNUAL SALARY)**, that (INCLUDES being PAID for the SUMMER days OFF) that the kids get. Then you teachers WHINE about having to put in EXTRA time after your **(9 to 3)** teaching job. You mean like the EXTRA time that (MOST REGULAR working PEOPLE) put in for a 9 to 5 job, and then have to work OVERTIME! If TEACHING is so BAD, then (QUIT)! And go do something ELSE! REGULAR people jobs put WAY MORE time in than TEACHERS, and we DON'T get 3 MONTHS plus EXTRA school HOLIDAYS off...which WE have to WORK our 9 to 5 for most of those 3 SUMMER months that YOU and your kids get VACATION! by Anonymous 8 years ago

I don't think the above posts were talking about special Ed teachers

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Special ed teachers are still teachers, and they don't get paid much. All teachers are underpaid. They have to deal with students who don't even care about learning, and somehow make them retain information about Shakespeare. It's a thankless job and it's people like this that make it seem okay to hate on teachers. The ignorance of you people is astounding.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Now that is totally Biased. The underpaid and Special Ed thing is right. My school's students are nothing like that, and we are not ignorant. We care

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If you think that teachers aren't underpaid then you are ignorant. You misunderstood me. Most of the kids at my school care, and that's only because their parents are spending thousands a year to send them here. Or because they want good grades. Not because they actually like to learn.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Teachers are SO not underpaid!! They get paid way more them people like paramedics or nurses and they get more sick leave and holidays. More sick leave because "sickness travels around schools". Yeah sure, thats fair enough so... sickness doesnt travel around hospitals???? Also, THEY set the homework they're marking, deal with it. Not only that they hardly work more days then they have off and only work 6 hours a day. In fact, less then. They always get lunch breaks and afternoon tea breaks. Yes, there are ratbag kids, yes you have to do reports. Reports are done on computers and you have wordbanks for the comments. You tell kids to stop complaining. Maybe your the ones teaching them too?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Teachers are extremely underpaid if you consider how much they contribute to the world in relation to other professions. Anybody who has ever done anything meaningful in this world wouldn't have gotten where they were without teachers.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The teachers at my school have EVERYTHING done electronically. My school is actually pretty decent, and it's the kids who miss out. The teachers get their FULL salary, with benefits, when they retire, for the rest of their lives. The administration all got Blackberries, for free. There are projectors, so they only have to make slides, on their free computers. The kids, however, are at risk of losing sports and activities because the school is "losing money" [even though they just overspend] Special Ed teachers definitely deserve more, but other teachers need to suck it up. They work 8 hr days, and have free periods, get snowdays off, and get vacations. My aunt is a teacher, and she seems to make enough, because her kids wear Hollister and she spends all summer with them.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But not all schools are like that. At mine, my favorite teacher couldn't even get the administration to get a hole in the wall repaired. Lots of teachers stay after, and come before school ends and starts, even though they aren't getting paid overtime. And considering what they have to deal with, they're way underpaid.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not as much as other jobs they arent. We just hear about it more. My mum is a nurse. She, too, gets attacked but by fully grown men. Not school children. Nurses can't afford medication anymore. Sure, teachers have to deal with a lot but... its not as bad as people make out. Or them themselves some times. My mum worked christmas. Did they?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Truth be told. Most teachers complain because they can. They unite because in unity they can get more for doing less. I am married to a teacher. She works 180 days out of the year and gets paid for those 180 days (VERY well). And yes - she is OFF in summers. Oh and Christmas (2 weeks), Thanksgiving (one week), Spring Break ( one week) and the list goes on and on.... I work a FULL time job and yet i hear more about how bad they (teachers ) have it. Government jobs are an easy place to complain and unite. Government jobs can lead to more freedom, higher pay for less work, better retirements than most Americans, etc.... BTW - if you think i have said anything untrue - ask any teacher during the Covid 19 PANDEMIC did they EVER piss a paycheck? I bet not. Then ask them - did you work the same amount of hours. Some will say it was harder - but don't be fooled. Again - i am married to a teacher. She cannot lie to me.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

I am not sure about this but I think dollars per hour the may make comprable to other jobs they just have more vacation some teachers may deserve to get more but there are always those teachers that don't really make plans, take forever to grade simple things, and teach almost nothing, those are the ones that need to stop complaining. Other teachers really do care about the kids and have to put up with a lot and they deserve more

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I wish you could take some money for some of the teachers and give it to others.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I have worked for a school district for 20 years and agree completely .So many teachers most infact at this district are excited to be back in the fall but within two weeks are literally counting the days til the next day off and when they get back from that they are already saying they can't wait for the next .This district is also one of the highest paying in the state . We have some excellent teachers but to be honest most became teachers for the time off .Don't forget They get 3 days here for Thanksgiving two weeks at Christmas 7 days for spring break and usually at least 10 weeks in the summer .Teachers make better money than they like to admit ,the ones that work summer don't necessarily need it they just aren't lazy and they need something to do . This district is quite wealthy ,it has like 1.5 percent free and reduced meals .That's extremely low .

by Anonymous 4 years ago

Don't want to forget ,if we have early outs because of snow teachers go home with full pay and that day counts as a school day .That adds up to thousands of tax dollars spent that teachers don't work but get paid for .

by Anonymous 4 years ago

both of my parents are teachers, and they put up with more shit than you ignorant little bastards can imagine. They are completely underpaid, and the government pushes them around. They originally had a good contract, but people are trying to take it away from them. They deal with the worst of the worst, student wise. AND they don't teach special ed. My father has been threatened with death by students, and my mom has had parents of students come in and say that they don't want my mom to teach their kids because my mom gives the kids work. This is reciculous post.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Lies. They get paid 200, they work 365.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Sureee they do. Not. They ALWAYS get holidays off with their kids. My mum worked christmas this year and easter for as long as I remember. At least they get that much.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What, does she teach Kindergarten?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They do not! My god! Stop exaggerating. All this is insane. Sure, I agree its not the best job in the world due to students and stuff but they DO have good hours and there ARE worst jobs. they don't like it? Go work as a garbage collecter then! Can you feed your children? Then you have more then some in the world. Some parents are watching their children starve right now. They are watching them DIE.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

1. Far and Few of my teachers actually GRADE papers, we have this thing called scantron. it's a joke. for those of you who dont know what it is, it's a bubble sheet that we have to fill out, and they put them through a machine that grades it for them. 2. They get very good insurance, they get very good vacation. what other job gets three months off? all weekends? and all holidays? OH YEAH. none! 3. let me remind you of what the question was actually saying. IT SAID THEY NEED TO QUIT COMPLAINING. not if they make to much or to little. you dont hear nurses complaining about how much they make, you dont hear mcdonalds workers complaining about how much they maek, because everybody knows how much they will make before they get offered a job. 4. people need to be greatful they have jobs these days and need to quit complaining about how little they get paid, especially wehn they get MONTHS of vacation time.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What are you talking about? YOU TOTALLY hear nurses and McDonalds workers complaining.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not NEARLY as much as teachers, and you do not hear nurses complaining to their patients and McDonalds complaining to their customers. Like teachers do to their students. this is straight off of careercruising.net, a site with descriptions, and earnings of many careers.... Elementary school teachers tend to earn slightly less than high school teachers, and those who work in private schools often earn less than public school teachers. The national median salary for elementary teachers is around $49,000 a year. that is MEDIAN. for the 200 days a year they work, and in that day the 6 hours they actually work, because we all know they dont all work through their 'prep' time... that comes out to 40 DOLLARS AN HOUR! but say they do actually use their prep time. that is still 30 dollars an hour. for an eight hour day, and i dont know a single teacher that is at school eight hours a day. underpaid my ass

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Sure, it comes out to $40 an hour, if they work for six hours a day. ... but you are forgetting something. If the teacher was just a "babysitter," as they have been called in the past, they would be payed per hour PER KID. So if you have 20 kids in the classroom (and that's a conservative estimate, many classrooms have more than that), the teacher would be payed approximately $5 an hour per kid. That's less than minimum wage. In terms of complaining, of course it seems like teachers complain to their students more than nurses complain to their patients. Look at how much MORE time a teacher spends with their students on a daily basis. Just because a teacher isn't at the school where they teach during the summer doesn't mean they aren't working hard somewhere else, either at a second summer job, or going to workshops and seminars, OR going back to school to get a second degree or masters degree.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

More time a teacher spends with their students? A nurse works longer hours, a teachers (highschool) only has their students for an hour or less.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My school only goes to school 6 hours a day. Including lunch and afternoon tea which are 1 hour and the other 20 mins.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

@Piggie8 they don't work 365! summer vacation, dumbass!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Uh, no! They have to go to summer meetings and workshops and then prepare their curriculum for the next year! What do they do, make it up the week before the school year start?!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

@EOBT havent you heard!! They don't get a summer vacation either anymore! lol!!! <----- sarcasm

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Nurses should be ALLOWED to complain. The hospitals are broke, they can't pay for the medication the nurses need. Nurses are no longer getting staffed if someone calls in sick. SO THEY WORK UNDERSTAFFED. They often dont get lunch breaks. They work long hours and sometimes nights. They don't get as much sickleave (as someone stated above). They don't get holidays off with they're kids. Someone has to work christmas ect, dont they? If nurses dont do their duty, people DIE. If they go on strikes, people DIE. Nurses hold peoples lives in their hands and get worked into the ground. THEY are the ones who should be complaining.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But they arent because they do their job with pride! unlike teachers, and @piggie8 that my friend is a crock of shit. my brothers BOTH work at the school during the summer, and they say the only people that are EVER there are the principal, and the coaches. thats it. and dont even start me with this curriculum bullshit. they teach the same stuff every single year. unless they switch subejcts or grades or something then they just use the previous teachers lessons plans.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Who do you think taught those nurses? Not all teachers teach the same curriculum and lessons over and over again, but it would be absurd to think they should have to change everything from year to year. If the teacher taught one lesson every two days, thats 100 different lessons, projects, assignments, powerpoints, and lectures for the teacher to write out and perfect every summer (in addition to working a SUMMER JOB). And all of those lessons, if the teacher is a good one, would be effective for almost all of the students they teach, would be interesting, creative, and fun. A teacher SHOULD reuse lessons that are successful, and find ways to revamp ones that aren't.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Umm... we maily get tectbook work? Sorry but I don't find that really hard to organise.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Teachers DO NOT perfect their lessons, thats why we have problems with our education system, because we have teachers that DONT care. my teacher this year, if a kid that was sick asked what they missed she would say you should have been here, but you werent so I'm not telling you, I'll be here next year if you need to re-take my class. not a single teacher of mine has a good attitude, except my gym teacher. so perfecting all of their plans, and all of these powerpoints and lectures, no it's not reality, you obviously arent in school these days... besides, textbooks now COME with pre-made powerpoints and lessons, the teachers just have to show the powerpoint and give out the packet and worksheet. they dont make up their own lessons. it's called a textbook.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

did you ever think maybe YOU are the one with the shitty attitude? and for every teacher who doesn't care, there is one who does. maybe instead of bitching about the education system, you should try to change it. or at least recognize that there are good teachers out there who are attempting to.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh trust me, I spent hours upon hours in the principals office this year talking with him and other staff about two teachers that need to change, for half of their class fails every test. and I totally agree that there are teachers out there who truely DO care and who really love their job, but I feel like there are more teachers taht spend more time complaining than teaching.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

6 hours? 200 days? What a joke. Try 12 to 15 hours a day, weekends included. Crap insurance, 35k after seven years, three reguired weeklong sessions in thesummer. A week be school stsrts and a week after it ends. Kids who scream, hit, cuss, punch, bite, and generally hate them. Tons of them also buy their own supplies, and for all he kids in the class.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I hope you don't teach English.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Actually, ( or obviously, depending on how you look at it) I don't teach, I live with teachers.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

A lot of the time, Teachers do buy their classes school supplies, especially in poorer school districts. They usually don't eat lunch because lunch in when they deal with parents that come in to complain about their kid getting in trouble.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Had friends in college who earned their teacher degrees. Seemed to me the direction often taken by those not able or simply not willing to do the work of a more difficult curriculum. They worked less but partied more than any of us engineering majors. Now these friends of mine teach at schools and find their complaints consequential as they never really liked academia. Suppose things don't change much when it comes to work ethic or attitude.

Nurses make bank, if they dont like their jobs they can work as a phlebotomist or for a school, or doctors office where they can have better hours. If they don't like the stress and patient interaction go work at McDonald's. Teachers same thing, except I will say that SOME cities teacher's still start teachers at 30,000 a year and max at 40,000 or so. I work in EMS and in non-profit. I have a bachelors and lots of experience and make $16/hour. Before that I worked in Non profit, same deal BUT I knew it going in and I am happy ☺. For the the cry babies, go feed a starving child and check your privilage!
