+568 Maybe if there was a plus size barbie...anorexia and bulemia would be less common. amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If there was a plus size barbie, no one would buy her

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What makes you say that? People would buy her because it would be a common relief/break from all the other crap society tries to instill in our brains.

(GuitarPrincess94):You have a point when it comes to the parents, but kids think skinny dolls look prettier without even understanding why.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i guess you're right. Which is the sad part. These kids have the idea that "skinny=pretty" without, as you said, knowing why. Our whole system is just screwed up. It saddens me.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What's worse is that the only plus size models who make it have amazingly gorgeous faces, huge boobs, and hot hourglass figures

by Anonymous 13 years ago

not to mention their perfect skin. Seriously? They wouldnt even be considered plus sized in the real world. Theyre just like models in playtex bras. Who even wears those anymore? Rawr. (random venting about society, i apologize haha)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why barbie? Mr. Potato Head isn't exactly in the best physical shape himself.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's cause he's a potato.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i lol'd

by Anonymous 13 years ago

its genetics. We are atracted to certain traits based on which one is best for raising a kid or healthiest. Barbies just exploit it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But it's not only Barbie it's that fact that Hollywood give us the impression that girls with the " hourglass" figure gets all the guys and are happyliest girls. But most celebrities went through surjury to be like that or they have a trainer.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

All I see lately on tv is big big butts.

by Anonymous 6 years ago

Anorexia in it's most serious form is rarely about thinness and under eating... that's just how the other issues are manifested

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't see how a doll can stop those things.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i dont get how a barbie doll causes all these things. shes a doll, a toy. little girls arent the ones starving themselves its teens and adults. besides there are bigger problems in the world.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You are so right.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

, I agree 100%!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah, but even if those little girls aren't the ones doing it...the idea is instilled into their minds that being like Barbie means being pretty. I mean come on, the doll is EVERYWHERE. Although it may not be the whole reason for the problem, it definitely doesn't help to grow up with that perception of a "pretty" woman.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I never really understood the whole anti-Barbie view. They're just dolls. It's not like you push a button and they say, "Be just like me because I'm skinny and blonde and have a pretty face and a boyfriend named Ken." They're just a toy. But I think that a plus-size Barbie would be kind of cool.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

did you know Barbie and Ken are siblings?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not if she was called Plus-Size Barbie. However, if Barbie was made to be more realistically shaped, it's possible. Although as someone who has battled bulimia in the past, it was more Hollywood than Barbie.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Are you saying being fat is okay? Plus-size is just a nice way of saying "obese and prone to heart diease + cancers." More realistic would be good, but not plus-sized. Stop romanticizing being fat. It's sweaty, uncomfortable, and MAKES YOU DIE.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

SKINNY DOES NOT ALWAYS EQUAL HEALTHY. You can have curves, be a plus size woman, and STILL BE HEALTHY.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i was about to agree with this until i researched it a bit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbie <-- read the first bullet under Controversies i think it may in the past have had influence (especially if you read the part where it says "Barbie Baby-Sits" came with a book entitled How to Lose Weight which advised: "Don't eat." Is Barbie the way she is because of Hollywood? Or were the celebrities that made it big in Hollywood influenced by Barbie as children, therefore making Hollywood into what it is now?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

point well made (: *claps*

thanks :)

anytime random stranger, anytime (:

I have anorexia and bulimia and barbies didn't do shit to help contibute to that. People need to do their research about eating disorders. It's a mental illness. It's mostly about control or the feeling they don't deserve to eat.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I have an eating disorder as well. however, when I was little...the image of a perfect woman was portrayed by barbie. her features are unrealistic and i felt as if that's what I had to look like. of course I'm older now, but that image has stuck with me. Not only barbie but everything in the media. so please dont say people don't do their research if it's different for everyone. YOUR case isn't the only one out there.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Or just an average-sized one.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

girls are way too fat now. Give them someone slim like barbie to admire.
