+583 Not using so much paper doesn't really "save a tree" it just conserves paper, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

sure it does. the less paper you use, the less trees you need to cut down

They aren't going to stop cutting trees down if I stop using two pieces of paper and just use the back of the first. Either way, I have to buy the whole pack so they know it is going to sell.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

ya but then you don't need to buy as many packs, so then the paper company doesn't sell as much so they don't produce as much.

The point is supply and demand. If you use less, the demand goes down and there will be less supply. Of course, 4 sheets of paper doesn't actually do anything, but in principle it saves trees.

Exactly what I was going to say. Plus, small individual conservations done by everyone can significantly reduce demand.

(CapedCrusader)@400476 (chris9): : It doesn't do anything. There are enough companies that need to print checks, inventory lists, applications, schools need worksheets. It doesn't matter what you and I do, there is always a huge demand for them. We are never going to save trees by simply using a little less paper.

Paper is a highly sustainable business. It need not be made with trees from the rainforest; it can be made from trees from paper farms, trees that have already been killed, scrap wood, sawdust, recycled paper, etc.

Paper is mainly made by synthetic things these days.

i dont understand what all the hype is about, i mean someone else is gonna use the paper i dont, so why stop?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If everyone conserves paper, then the need would not be as great, so many trees would be saved.
