Whenever someone says "I'm not book smart, but I'm street smart", all I hear is "I'm not real smart, but I'm imaginary smart."

Oh, wow, I didn't even know that was already a post. I just knew that I'd heard it before, so I said it. Yep.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I would've said the same thing if you hadn't already said it. I just found the link so people could vote on it and whatnot.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Ah, okay!
by Anonymous13 years ago
it's not from amirite either. I hope you know that it's an actual quote from an actual comedian/humorist.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I know. Is it Demetri Martin? That's who I immediately thought of when I remembered the quote, but I could be wrong.
by Anonymous13 years ago
One without the other is pointless.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I have read about street smarts...
by Anonymous13 years ago
haha. Nice one.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I keep seeing your comments and I must say you're hilarious!
by Anonymous13 years ago
Thank you! I try
by Anonymous13 years ago
"street smart" will not get you into college.
by Anonymous13 years ago
but, it will allow you to get along well with the world. it will give you some logic
by Anonymous13 years ago
Logic is book smart
by Anonymous13 years ago
No, logic is an intangible concept that cannot be written in a book.
by Anonymous13 years ago
1) Logic is not intangible. 2) There are many books and texts on logic, logical fallacy, reason, etc. 3) You seem to think that because the term is "books smart", that everything pertaining to it has to literally relate to books. 4) Street smart=following society and social tendencies. Book smart=science, intelligence, and reason. Now ask yourself, which does "logic" fit into?
by Anonymous13 years ago
Yes, books can talk about logic and reason but that doesn't make it tangible. You cannot physically see thoughts and reasoning, you can only describe the concept. Just because you read about logic, doesn't mean you have logic. Logic is definitely more learned from your experiences (street smarts) than books.
by Anonymous13 years ago
When we're talking about "tangible" in this context, we're not talking about it's initial, literal meaning of "able to be touched". We're talking about abstract versus concrete. I don't think what you're saying is about logic. Do you mean, like, common sense?
by Anonymous13 years ago
Essentially, common sense and logic are the same thing. Logic is the application of common sense.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Not exactly, and definitely not in this context. If you replace logic with common sense in you comments, they'll all be true. But not as they are
by Anonymous13 years ago
My grades and school and achievements would make you think I'm smart, and my dad likes to brag to my Grandma about that. Her argument when he told her I made straight A's at my science academy was "Well, she's not street smart!"
by Anonymous13 years ago
Well, not a lot of jobs put "MUST HAVE STREET SMARTS" as a requirement...
by Anonymous13 years ago
If you are unable to appear presentable and carry yourself in the right way, though, you will probably not get the job.
by Anonymous13 years ago
True, but a lot of jobs these days require some sort of education past high school.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Yes, they do. Most jobs also require you to be personable too. You cannot have a specific requirement for street smarts because it is an unquantifiable concept.
by Anonymous13 years ago
You have to have both.
by Anonymous13 years ago
ideally, street smarts should be in equilibrium with book smarts.
by Anonymous13 years ago
As some people have said, you need both to survive in this world.
by Anonymous13 years ago
They're both equally important.
Book smarts = getting a job that earns lots of money (probably)
Street smarts = knowing how not to get robbed of said money
by Anonymous13 years ago
Book smart: knowing that a tomato is a fruit.
Street smart: knowing not to put it in a fruit salad.
Book smart: getting accepted into an Ivy League school.
Street smart: majoring in English, Art, or Womyn's Studies (yes, the feminists decided that they were too good to have the word "men" in "women," so they changed the 'e' to 'y.')
by Anonymous13 years ago
I don't see street smarts getting closer to a cure for cancer anytime soon . . .
by Anonymous13 years ago
Society-wise, it used to be that being street smart was more important but we're now developing into an age where being book smart wins.
by Anonymous13 years ago
HUURRRRRRR DURP DURP LET'S HAVE A RETARDED ARGUEMENT ABOUT TRYING TO PROVE THEY'RE NOT RETARDED
by Anonymous13 years ago
Ok, just think about it. You can know everything ever written in every book, but if you can't go out on the street and apply it you're screwed.
