Plastic surgery should only be done if It's to improve ones health, amirite?
by Anonymous13 years ago
What about people who are in accidents that leaves them deformed or with very noticeable scars? If a plastic surgeon could fix the problems and help them get back to a normal life without strangers staring at them all the time wondering what happened, isn't that worth having the surgery?

I'm pretty sure that is part what the poster meant.

Or they could wear it proudly and not care what other people think...

Why should you care if people decide to change how they look?! Its their problem, not yours.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Because sometimes if you think someone looks good and they get plastic surgery, you wish they looked the same as before.

ok, but that's their problem, they choose what they think looks better for them, not what others think
by Anonymous13 years ago
I think they may try to do that, but they really only do it to look better in front of other people.

not really... I got a nose job even though people told me my nose was pretty.. I was really self-concious and wouldn't even take pictures. Now I'm much more confident and feel a hell of a lot better about myself

Thank you, chicuela... just take a look at all the posts hating "fatties" and "fuglies" on this site alone and tell me one's mental health couldn't be affected by how they look. Until someone comes at you with a scalpel against your will, it's not really any of your damn business.

Whatever makes you happy. If YOU want to change YOUR nose, and not do it for anyone else or because someone else told you to, and you have the money, than why not?
There's nothing wrong with it as long as it's because you want it, you don't have too many procedures done, and it is performed by a certified professional.

you should have the freedom to change what you want about yourself, aren't you able to wear makeup, dye your hair, get color contacts, tan? So what if surgery is a little more drastic, it's what the person wants.

Who are you to say they shouldn't? Yeah, it's weird when people get 10 plastic surgeries, but some people are uncomfortable with something, so they want to change it.
It's like saying dentists that clean teeth and hair stylists are pointless. In a judgmental society, people want to feel beautiful. If they feel great without surgery, I'm proud of them. It's wonderful, but there's no need to criticize others.

I think that if you are changing yourself because you don't feel confident that falls under `for your health'. Not feeling confident can lead to depression, and when you're happy you tend to be healthier.

I think 6/10 of doctors have to agree they're ugly as hell before they have plastic surgery...

my brother has a physical disability that he was born with that is characterized by a 'flat' face, where his eyes and nose don't indent or stand out the way they're supposed to. he also has webbed fingers. he had surgery to separate his fingers and had surgery to push his nose and cheek bones forward. it made him look more 'normal'. he's happy, that's what's important.
