It was actually supposed to be on adult swim at first because Spongebob and Patrick were going to be gay lovers, but then they decided to make it a kid's show.

Ha that's like the reverse of what happened to Ren and Stimpy. It started as a kids show (albeit a very questionable one) and then ended up on Adult Swim where they made them gay lovers. I have no idea what they were smoking.
