wow....way to put a controversial issue out there..............and it is legal
by Anonymous14 years ago
God forbid we ever discuss controversial issues.
by Anonymous11 years ago
For the billionth time. Controversy is fine, but let's keep things fresh.

This post was made 2 years ago, so it's probably one of the //first// posts on this site about abortion.
by Anonymous11 years ago
So that's the fault of whoever homepaged it. Also, a lot of those homepage votes could be from people who saw it two years ago.
by Anonymous11 years ago
It is legal. And it is murder.
by Anonymous14 years ago
Murder is illegal by definition--because abortion is legal, it cannot be murder. Try again, please. (Abortion also lacks malice aforethought, but that's not as stark of a contradiction.)
by Anonymous14 years ago
ZuRG's right - if you Google it, the definition is "The unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another." So, abortion: premeditated, yes; but unlawful, no; and whether or not fetuses are human beings is arguable. It's not completely clear whether or not it should be considered murder.

An acorn is not an oak tree.

If you're convicted of murdering 2 people when you murder a pregnant woman, why is abortion not considered murder?
by Anonymous14 years ago
@anon it's is because abortion isn't allowed after a certain stage in the pregnancy, if they are murdered they would most likely not be able to find the baby if it was still during the time in which abortion were still allowed
by Anonymous11 years ago
Also, no matter what stage of pregnancy the woman is in, if she didn't want her baby to die, it's not an abortion - it's murder.
by Anonymous11 years ago
So if you kill a woman who's 3 minutes pregnant it's murder right? //Riiiiiiiiight?//
NO. It's only murder after a certain point in the pregnancy. Just like how abortions in the 3rd trimester are illegal.
I would go into the whole concept of you know, killing the fetus without mother's consent, differentiating that between murder and abortion, but I figure most people know that already
by Anonymous11 years ago
Because the woman wanted her baby...
by Anonymous14 years ago
Assuming abortion was made illegal what should be the punishment for a woman who has an abortion? Because it is possible to get them without going to a doctor. It's just dangerous.
by Anonymous11 years ago
Most anti-choicers I've talked to think that someone who has an abortion should be treated like they murdered a person.
by Anonymous11 years ago
Even just talking about illegal abortions reminds me of that Cyndi Lauper song - Sally's Pigeons. It's so sad.

It's really, really rare that I don't vote on a post, but this is an exception. On the one hand, I don't agree with abortion in a lot of circumstances. Like, 'Oh, forgot a condom, still in high school, not a good time... Nevermind, ABORTION!' That's stupid and selfish. If you don't want the baby, let someone who does really want it adopt it. At the same time, I don't think abortion should be illegal - if either mother or baby is at risk, or if the mother has serious psychological problems because of rape, then I think it can be acceptable. So I guess what I'm saying, is that I'm not voting because I think abortions should technically be legal, but just a LOT harder to obtain.
Sorry about the crazy long comment.

couldn't have said it better myself!

Not trying to troll but I really don't understand what the difference is between a stupid, careless teenager who gets an abortion, or a rape victim getting an abortion, or a young adult who really can't afford a baby getting an abortion.
They're all the same. A pregnancy is terminated. A mother chooses to carry her fetus to term. I just don't get why some abortions are considered "okay" by the public and some aren't when abortions are abortions.
That's why I really hate pro-lifers who say "no abortions except for rape". If you spend your entire argument ranting about how all life is sacred and holy, don't proceed to say okay you can kill that innocent child only in circumstances //you deem appropriate.// No caring for "human life" anymore. "You got pregnant in a circumstance I'm saying is ok to get pregnant (aka not being a "whore") so you can go murder if you want" -people who support abortions if raped but none beyond that.
Pro-choice by the way. I support abortions anytime, anywhere because an abortion is an abortion. I don't have a set of guidelines you need to meet to get one. Your body, //your// guidelines.

I'm just going to add my two cents as if people care:
Many people are against abortion because it's killing a life. Well, picking weeds out of your garden is killing life too. Killing mosquitoes is killing a life too. In the time period that an abortion is permitted, the fetus is not yet aware. It cannot be classified as a human being yet, because it wouldn't be able to survive outside its mother's womb.
I think that an abortion needs to be thought through very carefully, but I think that, ultimately, the choice is up to the mother.
by Anonymous11 years ago
Mosquitoes and weeds are not a good comparison. Using your logic, I should be legally allowed to murder you, since you apparently think that a human life is the same as the life of a plant or insect.
by Anonymous11 years ago
Point taken. I hope the gist of it still came across though.
by Anonymous11 years ago
Yes, it needs to be legal. If it were illegal, people could still find ways to do it that aren't as safe as the procedures now. My friend had a relative who performed one on herself with a coat hanger, and she died as a result.
Not that all women would do this, but keeping it legal keeps it safer.
by Anonymous11 years ago
I support abortion. My logic is it's her vagina and her body and her life. If she doesn't wanna do that to her body, she shouldn't have to.
