+386 When a tree falls and nobody is around to hear it it still makes a noise, amirite?

It depends on your perception of what noise is. If you believe that noise is the presence of sound waves then the falling tree would make a noise. If, however, you believe that the longitudinal waves themselves are merely sound and it is the vibrations that they cause within the inner ear and the resultant signals to the brain that cause them to be classified as noise then no, the falling tree makes no noise unless someone hears it. Therefore we can conclude that a falling tree will always make sound regardless of the presence of somebody to hear it. Whether this sound can automatically be described as noise is fully dependent on the personal understanding of what noise is and thus there is no general true answer to your question as whether or not you are right is something that is true for an individual and so the same answer cannot be true for everyone.

lol ^^thats what i was going to say

exactly, but the right question would have been if it still makes waves & vibrations. The human ear is what interprets these vibrations the falling of the tree would create, processing them as sound. Therefore a human would have to be present in order for there to be sound. So no there is no noise.

well, sound is just waves hitting your ears the way i understand it, just like how color is just light hitting your eyes. if everyone was blind there would be no color, so if theres no one around to hear something happen...thered be no sound.

In theory if no one was there to see light waves, for example, they would still exist, just because no one is there doesn't make things disappear. The same thing with sound waves, sound waves will be made but they would be unknown to us
