+456 You have to wonder if those guys that come around and preach their religion to you actually think they are going to change your mind within the 5 minutes that they talk to you, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

the idea is not to have them repent right then and there, but to have a seed planted and hopefully curiosity will strike them and they will want to learn more.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree. They are trying to get you interested. Not "HALLELUJAH I AM CHANGED JESUS LORD LORDY GOD ALMIGHTY." We all aren't weird you know :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"We all aren't weird you know :)" Perhaps... perhaps not, I'm doubtful.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, I seem normal. Most of the people you know are probably Christian. They aren't weird. Well, most of them.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Uh is it the Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses? Either way, their feasible arguments crumble before the might of the Truth which I spew!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They're both sects of your religion...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not really. Yes, they do believe in Jesus and God, but the Mormons believe in a liar, and Jehovah's Witnesses believe in something else... Can't remember. I know we differ on tons of subjects.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe in the Holy Trinity. They simply believe that Jehovah was the only Holy Spirit. While, most of Christianity: Catholics, Anglicans, Presbyterians etc.. believe that there is the Father, Son and The Holy Spirit.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There's some other difference, but it may be related to that. Like, they don't believe Jesus was God's Son or something? IDK. All I know is that Mormons believe that one guy had some plates given to him by God, and that no one could see them except his family. Yeah.. That's believable.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

lol yeah, there are quite a few more differences, one of the well known one's for Jehovah Witnesses is they don't believe that blood transfusions are right. The reasoning is something along the lines of, "Treat your body as a temple" and before they tested the blood for transfusions they were concerned about HIV/AIDS spreading etc.. I could be a little off, but it's something like that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ah, I see. I'm not that knowledgeable with other religions; but I at least understand my own. Most people can't tell you their beliefs if you hand them a Bible. =/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If you don't know much about other religions how do you know that yours is the "right" one? Isn't it possible one of the others that you don't know much about is?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because there is a God, evolution is false, and Jesus was God's son. That limits me to Christianity.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There are more religions that beleive in a God, and others that even beleive that Jesus was his son. I thought that everyone was God's child anyway.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What about evolution, which is false? Limits me to Christianity, because Islam don't believe Jesus is God's son.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually, more than Joseph Smith's family saw the plates. That's why we have the testimony of the witnesses in the front of the Book of Mormon. :) Also, as Mormons, or more accurately, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we love and teach from the Bible as well.

@599267 (Anonymous): I never said I was smarter. I said that I am not as credulous.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I didn't mean to reply on the other post. Phone lagged. Who were the people who saw the plates? His relatives. Where are the plates now? What? Never been found. You're basically believing a guy whose only aim was a get rich quick scheme. I don't know why anyone would believe that. Did you know that people can lie?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It wasn't a get-rich quick scheme. If you actually know anything about Joseph Smith's life he was really poor and had to keep moving to keep from being killed. Right, that sounds like a nice life...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, actually, it was. I'm broke, what will appeal to the people? Ah, religion! Let me say that God gave me golden plates! I'll act like ill show them to anyone, but really only rig it to show my relatives! We'll make millions!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You misunderstood. It's not that he started out poor, it's that by starting the religion he was persecuted and people wouldn't hire him, so he became poor and couldn't live in the same spot for long. And how could starting this kind of religion make him rich? The tithing money collected didn't go to him

by Anonymous 13 years ago

He never made any money... he didn't make millions, and he showed it to more than his family. If God doesn't want something to be found, it won't be found. I definitely respect that you have your own opinion, but I would appreciate it if you would be a little bit less disrespectful to our beliefs. You have some facts mixed up quite a bit, and it would probably be better to find out the right answers instead of spreading around the wrong ones. I do know that people lie, but I don't believe that Joseph Smith did. If you need any help sorting out some of the facts that you mixed up, let me know, and I'd be glad to straighten it out for you. :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Tell me, who did he show it to? His uncle, his father etc. And maybe some others whom he bribed. Why wouldn't he show the public? Why haven't they been found? Why is there no evidence other than his and his relative's word?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oliver Cowdery, Martin Harris, David Whitmer, Christian Whitmer, Jacob Whitmer, Peter Whitmer, Jr., John Whitmer, Hiram Page, Joseph Smith, Sr., Hyrum Smith, and Samuel Harrison Smith. The record is sacred, so he didn't show just anyone. He didn't want them to be stolen. God doesn't want them to be found, so they haven't been. I don't want to argue with you, but if you have any honest questions that aren't angled at attacking anyone, I'd be delighted to answer you. http://www.mormon.org is also another great place for answers to questions.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's extremely disrespectful... You basically just said, "These guys are all idiots and I'm smarter than them all, simply for not being one of them." Yeah, unless you know each member of both churches personally along with the complete teachings of both religions, you really can't judge whether or not it's "believable," and who is or isn't a "liar." Think what you want, but at least be respectful when expressing your beliefs. Sorry for the rant, but disrespect is one of my least favorite things.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree. Mormons and Jehovahs witnesses are some of the weirder branches.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

To be quite honest, we Mormons really aren't that weird

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Some are. Some of the ones I've met anyway.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thats the lazy kind of "ministers" They have to get to know someone first, and just show their religion through themselves. and if the person wants a part of that, they will aks.
