It's not "soda" it's not "pop" its "Coke", amirite?
by Anonymous13 years ago
What if you're not drinking Coke...? Or are you implying that the only one worth drinking is Coke?
by Anonymous13 years ago
whats the other option, Pepsi? ive just always called it Coke because its seems pointless to specify, they taste the same to me.
and its sound really stupid (IMHO) to say "pop"
by Anonymous13 years ago
I hate people who say "pop" too, but I go with the "soda" option... and I was wondering what you call flavored sodas, like Sprite or orange soda or other soft drinks but cola. And I'm more of a Coke person myself anyways, Pepsi overdoes the bubbles haha
by Anonymous13 years ago
hmmm.....good point. i guess if i get a soda, i always get Coke, so yeah. but, if i get something else, ill call it a Sprite or whatever it is.
when i posted this i was only thinking of when i hear someone say "pop" i immediately think of Coke, i didnt consider the other drinks.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Some people call any kind of soda "coke"
"Would you like a drink?"
"Do you have any cokes?"
"What kind?"
"Dr. Pepper."
It's a southern thing.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I think I can guess where you are from because you say 'Coke'.
by Anonymous13 years ago
really, where?
by Anonymous13 years ago
Texas??
by Anonymous13 years ago
nope.
im currently in GA (yuck), but ive lived all over.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I love Georgia!
by Anonymous13 years ago
What's wrong with Georgia? and where in Georgia do you live?
by Anonymous13 years ago
south georgia....and nothing really wrong with it, it can just get a little redneck where i live. not something im used to.
by Anonymous13 years ago
What's wrong with GA? I live there and I love it.
by Anonymous13 years ago
nothing really, im just not used to the small town, redneck stuff. im not saying everybodys a redneck (and im not criticizing rednecks), but it can seem that way sometimes.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I can understand that. Small towns can be a huge culture shock if you're not used to them. Where are you from originally, if you don't mind my asking?
by Anonymous13 years ago
my dad was in the Air Force, so all over the place, haha. but never a small town until i moved here. ive been in a lot of states and Guam, England, and Hawaii.
by Anonymous13 years ago
That was my guess too!
by Anonymous13 years ago
Yup it's a Southern thing
by Anonymous13 years ago
What people call soft drinks varies in different parts of the U.S. I live in Texas and say I'm gonna get a coke, although it may be a DP or sprite
by Anonymous13 years ago
Maybe if you're from the South.
by Anonymous13 years ago
..or all of the above?
by Anonymous13 years ago
People can call it any of them, it just depends on where you're from.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I call it pop. Where I live I guess...
by Anonymous13 years ago
Mountain Dew != Coke
by Anonymous13 years ago
I don't understand how that works when people refer to soda as Coke.
"Here's your Coke, sir."
"I didn't ask for a Coke, I asked for a fucking Coke!"
by Anonymous13 years ago
Precisely.
by Anonymous13 years ago
In Spanish, maybe.
My teacher said that they use "coca-cola" for soda.
That's just my teacher. I've never actually listened to an exchange between a Spanish person asking for a soda, but whatever.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I thought soda was refresco..
by Anonymous13 years ago
That's beverage, if I remember correctly. Haven't talked about food in class this year...yet.

My AP HuG textbook had a better, less complicated one... but that's the basic break down.
And to the people who wonder how you specify
by Anonymous13 years ago
Who cares how it's said, it's all the same thing. People who say they hate certain people because they use a certain term really need to mature and get their head out of their ass. It's a regional thing and if you grow up to say it that way it's just what you know.
by Anonymous13 years ago
It's pop in Illinois. If you say soda you get sooo many dirty looks... I've never even met someone who refers to all pop as Coke...
by Anonymous13 years ago
It's definitely pop in Minnesota. Never understood the people who call it all 'coke' (no offense to anyone). And soda just sounds weird.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I call it soda, but where I live about half the people call it soda and the other half say coke. I absolutely can't stand when people say pop though.
by Anonymous13 years ago
same
by Anonymous13 years ago
Actually it is both. All 3 actually. It can be any. But coke is a shortening of Coca-Cola, a specific brand.
I can't imagine anyone who would call Fanta, or Sprite "Coke"
by Anonymous13 years ago
Really? In the south, any brand of soda can be referred to as "coke"
by Anonymous13 years ago
Nope, not seeing it.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Eh, I don't drink any of it anyways.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I call it pop. But I live in Indiana...REPRESENT MOTHAFUDGER!
by Anonymous13 years ago
I call it soda, but I don't mind when people call it pop. However, it doesn't make sense to refer to all soft drinks as Coke, because that is a brand.
by Anonymous13 years ago
"Soda" is referring to all types of SODA. Coca-cola is a SODA, Sprite is a SODA etc. Be it coca-cola,sprite,fanta, whatever. "Coke" is a shortening of coca-cola. In New Jersey, if I order a "coke" I will get a coca-cola.
by Anonymous13 years ago
THANK YOU!! You're very, very correct. Where I come from, if you're speaking of a drink that is fizzy and sugary, it's "coke" or "soft drink".
Where are you from, anyway?
by Anonymous13 years ago
Honestly, who gives a crap? It's a freaking drink.
