+131 The fact that Rihanna's "Please Don't Stop the Music" has more views than Michael Jackson's "Thriller" on YouTube is absolutely disgraceful to our generation, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If you notice, she uses some phrases from him, like the "ma-ma-say-ma-ma-sa-ma-ma-ku-sa."

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Probably because Thriller has been out way before youtube. And you've probably heard it/seen it before then.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Views don't necessarily mean likes.

Example A: Rebecca Black

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I sometimes find myself watching TV shows that I hate just so I can complain about them later.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I do that all the time. Complaining is a favorite past time of mine.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's even more sad that MJ's "Thriller" has more views than the Eagles' "Hotel California." Or anything else that is millions of times greater than Thriller.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't think anything is a million times greater than Thriller. There are things better than it, but not millions of times. Thriller is one of the greatest songs of all time, not just by the number of people who like it, but also by the influence it has had on others.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Or that Justin beiber's "baby" has as many views as there are people in the USA

by Anonymous 12 years ago

what about the fact that "Friday" has more views than both of those?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

it's not disgraceful that it has more views. It has a lot of views because it sucks. What's disgraceful is that rebecca black THINKS people like her, so she made an entire album

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I find it so annoying when people say things like this. Some people think they're above everyone else because they like bands that most children of this generation have never heard of. So what if you like The Eagles and hate Justin Bieber, that doesn't make the music better. Why is our generation disgraced because some people haven't been exposed to certain types of music? And futhermore, who cares? You like your genre, someone else will like theirs, end of story.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Exactly. We don't have cavemen walking around boasting about how sticks rapped against rocks is the only music that "can be called music".

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Marry me.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't think it's about people just wanting to say that they listen to old music. It's about the fact that a band like the Eagles are actually musically talented. There are literally thousands of people who are as good as Rihanna, she just got lucky.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

...you're probably one of those people on youtube that spam "ZOMG, THIS SINGER IS WAYYYY BETTER THAN JUSTIN BIEBER, THUMBS UP IF AGREE"

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No, I was just saying that's how some people feel. I listen to a bit of everything really, I don't care about the quality of the music as long as its good to listen to.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

What's wrong with that? People don't have to like MJ

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Youtube views aren't a measure of a songs quality. People don't have to like Micheal Jackson, just people people can like rhianna if they want. The fact that people think that youtube views matter, at all, in any way, is a disgrace to our generation.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You sly one... you said "people" twice on two different lines.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Oh dear. My grammar has failed me this day :C I need to learn to proofread.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That reminded me of the the old "the the" trick with the second "the" on a different line, which is unnoticed by most people.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You know what, I'm sick of people being so elitist about music. If there are people who legitimately think that Rihanna is better than Michael Jackson, so be it. And if it's the bulk of the population, so what? It's not exactly hurting you. People need to understand that musical tastes mean almost nothing in the long run. What music is the most popular says very little about how intelligent our generation is, or how respectable our generation is, or how successful we will be as leaders. Complaining about other people's tastes, on the other hand, says a great deal.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

"complaining about other peoples tastes says a great deal" y. "what music is the most popular says nothing about how intelligent or respectable our generation is..." I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one, because it's obvious music HAS affected how this generation acts, and not for the better

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well, sometimes music can affect things, if, for example, they have lyrics that condone dangerous or otherwise stupid behavior. But if music has absolutely harmless, even silly, lyrics and is just too mainstream for the complainer's tastes, then the people who like the "mainstream" stuff have every right to enjoy it. (For the record, I don't know Please Don't Stop the Music, so I don't know whether it has silly or dangerous lyrics. I'm making a blanket statement.)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

and I must disagree with you. I don't see music effecting our behavior. Stupid people act stupid because they're just stupid, with backup (other stupid people). Music is just reciprocating the behavior in word form. It's like a live news feed of a terrible riot. The time has come to blame idiots for being idiotic, not music for encouraging it. It's not as if thriller has any deep world changing lyrics anyway.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well music can't be blamed 100%. People do have control over themselves, but I'm going to stick with the argument that the type of music you listen to encourages change in behavior. Mostly because my nephew and I are prime examples of this. If it was tested, I can definitly see there being a difference between someone that listens to country music all day, and someone that listens to techno music all day.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I really can't agree still. I don't understand how techno would influence your behavior.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Isn't Thriller the number one album of all time? I think you can relax now. Besides, it would probably have a gagillion views if YouTube was around back then

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It might be because people would rather listen to stuff that's more modern because it's stuff they hear on a more regular basis.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Guuhhhh. I'm so sick of people complaining about how this that and the other is "disgraceful" to our generation.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

What generation are you talking aboot, exactly?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So I'm a disgrace just because I don't like Michale Jackson? I don't see how that would be dishonorable. Boo-fucking-hoo, I don't like your music. Get the hell over it, that fact doesn't make me a person to be ashamed of. My personality should be what you base your opinions on, not if I like crappy music.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Sad, OP. Just because someone doesn't like your music, doesn't mean you should call them a disgrace. Shame on you. P.S. You're the real disgrace...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Actually, I think it's more disgraceful that you can't accept the tastes of others. We are in a new generation. Thriller is great and all, but people like please don't stop the music better. Get over yourself.
