I stayed in England with distant relatives for a few weeks in high school, and from actually talking to people my age they were surprised i was smart and "fit" because they thought americans all were fat and stupid, and the accent (chicago, so generic midwest) made me sound like i was very slow. :/

I had a conversation with a few British guys once and we talked a lot about accents and slang. They said that Americans always sound happy. They kept mocking my California accent but they didn't do it that well. They said my British accent was pretty good, though. That's probably because Americans consume a lot more British culture than they do ours. Because American culture sucks.
