+1,349 I just read that 4,153,237 people got married last year, I don't want to start any trouble, but shouldn't that be an even number, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Someone married themself xD

by Anonymous 13 years ago

there are different religions where they believe that 3 people are supposed to marry each other.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What religions are those??

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i dont remember, but i had to do a project on them back in 7th grade.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Let's get some hard evidence before you go spouting things as fact. Not trying to be mean, but if you can't even remember the name, then why say it?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you dont have to know the name, there are people out there that marry two other people.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But it's counted as two marriages, not one.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

its counted as one. two girls and a guy, or two guys and a girl, one marriage.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

A marriage is a union between two people. NOT THREE. It's two marriages between 3 people. Besides, it's illegal to to get married to more than one person at a time.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

not in some states, and one marriage can be between 3 people.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So false. It's illegal in every state. And IF you marry two people, only the first marriage has any legal merit. as far as the state is concerned the other person is a live in boyfriend or girlfriend.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

in some states its legal, and in other countries its legal, i never said that it only happens in the usa.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Give me the name of the state that's it's legal in. I don't really care about getting names of other countries. I'm only refuting your statement concerning the US.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

how am i supposed to know? go look it up.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I had already looked it up when i said it was illegal. You sound like such an idiot by saying that btw. You obviously have access to the internet like me, and yet you refused to do any research on the topic before arguing with someone about it. You astound me, and not in a good way.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

actually, since i did a paper on it, ive already looked it up, i know that it is legal in some states, and i dont need to look it up again.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You. Are. Such. A Moron. There isn't a single state in the United States of America that allows plural marriage or bigamy (Trust me, I actually did the research). What grade did you get on that paper? An F?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i got an A, and plural marriages, stop trying to sound smart, you fail. plural means more than 1, so what? people have to marry themselves. you're a retard.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's ILLEGAL in the United States. That's what i'm pressing here. I'm still not sure what you mean when you say "people have to marry themselves."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you said there isnt a state that allows plural marriages, PLURAL is more than one, do you need to go back to first grade? which means PLURAL is TWO. its not illegal for TWO people to get married, and it is legal in some states.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I used the term correctly. Plural marriage is the right way to say it when referring to it as the act of one man having multiple wives simultaneously. But if a man were to get married then divorced and then re-married, saying plural marriages would be correct. But not in this discussion. It doesn't look like we're even on the same page anymore. You went off on an unrelated tangent refuting my knowledge of the word "plural". And you still have yet to back up your claim about having multiple wives being legal in some states.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

no, plural. more than one. thats equal to 2 or more.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You are literally too stupid to debate with any longer. Have a nice day.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

at least i know what plural means. retard.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah way to go, you really got me on that one...and it would seem that it's ALL you know.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i bet i know a lot more than you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Judging by your grammar and spelling over the past day, I'd say the odds are against you...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

nope.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How do you figure?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(ConDog):you just got owned by the facts.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It is called polygamy when one person has more than one wife/husband. it is illegal in the united states but there are still some polygamist communities. In Texas, Utah, and Arizona. That is just how it is and I think you guys are arguing over something completely ridiculous.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My point is that it's not legal to get married, by a state official, to more than one person. Yes you're right, there are colonies, but those are spiritual unions and hold no legal merit. And it's the legality that i was refuting the entire time during my argument with that...interesting individual.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I was jsut trying to point out that what you both were saying was kinda ridiculous. It is illegal but there are places that accept it. And we should be more accepting of them and others whom have different points of view than us.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thanks for giving the rest of the world more reasons to hate Americans. You're an idoit. You have no right to have such an opinion about what OTHER people do in THEIR lives. It's not your life, it's not likely hurting you in anyway. Stay out of it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You just told me that I have no right to have an opinion...obviously you ate lead paint chips as a child. I'm not saying that people that do it are bad, i was simply arguing it's legality in the US. Do the world a favor and never speak again. because it makes you sound like an asshole for bringing things into an argument that you threw yourself into.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Just saying but when you insult someone else's intelligence, please try and spell idiot correctly.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You fucking retard. The OP didn't specify the country. By the way, Islam also allows polygamy besides Mormonism.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(EHHH?): What the hell are you talking about??? I never brought up Mormons. Read the conversation again and you'll find that i didn't care what country he was talking about, i was only discussing the US.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

just to let you know, youre a faggot

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Opinion duly noted (and then quickly dismissed because you don't matter in my life and you're probably an idiot)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Massachusetts.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Mormonism? It's called Polygomy.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

LMAO it is said that, given anonymity, a conversation usually degrades into argument within three replies.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Mormonism. They are polygamous and sometimes have up to 20 wives, some at the same time, others at different times.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Mormons

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Mormans can have more than one spouse

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No we can't...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"Today, the practice of plural marriage continues among tens of thousands of Mormon fundamentalists, mostly in the western United States, Canada, and Mexico, where it is generally illegal. However, practitioners are almost never prosecuted unless there is evidence of abuse, statutory rape, welfare fraud, or tax evasion. Mormon fundamentalists believe that plural marriage where a man has more than one wife is a requirement for obtaining the Celestial kingdom."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You do realize that I know more about my religion than Wikipedia, right? Today it is not something that you can do in the Mormon religion. If you are caught having more than one wife, then you are kicked out (excommunicated). These people that say they're Mormon and have more than one wife are sadly mistaken. Mormon fundamentalism (also called fundamentalist Mormonism) is a belief in the validity of SELECTED fundamental aspects of Mormonism as taught and practiced in the nineteenth century. Therefore, Fundamentalists practice things that have been abolished by the church and are not acceptable today. Anyone can call themselves a Mormon, but it's how they live that you can tell who really is or isn't. People practicing plural marriage are NOT living within the Mormon gospel, and should not be considered Mormon/LDS

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This conversation is so unbelievably funny. But yeah, you're the right one here in saying that it is illegal to have more than one wife in the USA. Maybe the person you were talking with was looking at a state somewhere else in the world. Or they're a troll. Or most likely just a moron.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Its illegal, so obviously people don't do it right? Just like people don't do cocaine, or drugs, or rob banks. Great logic kiddo. Maybe you can speak for the mormons that live around you, but you can't know that the thousands of mormons in the country abide by that law. Jesus would think you're an idiot, stop killing his cred, bitch.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

LOL this is a total joke. This number has been used multiple times and in the exact same way.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This is a cute post. I suppose a couple could've gotten married and divorced and one of the divorcees could've remarried, therefore 2 marriages took place involving 3 people.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yes, that or the fact that some cultures practice polygyny, where a man can have a second wife and so on.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thank you for thinking outside the box and not just arguing over whether someting is legal in the U.S.A or not! :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I bet you read that wrong, why would they say people and not marriages?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In Islam a man can marry up to 3 or 4 (forgot how much exactly) women at the same time. No one really does it except for Beduins, though. But- a woman can't have more than her one husband.. Hope this answers your question ;p

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(captinobvious) @267689 (chromana) Mormans banned the practice in the 1890's to be admitted to the united states. Of course there were those who didn't aggree with the ban and broke of starting the fundimentalist church of jesus christ of latter day saints. Today there are large sects in utah, british columbia, and texas. Its well known they're practicing polygamous but its just kind of left alone. A look the other way sort of thing.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

good lord! The whole world does not consist of the united states you know.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

people marry inadimate objects. a guy married a pillow and another married the eiffel tower. these are in different countries but yeah

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't remember if this is just US figures after scrolling through all that arguing over what plural means, but some Muslim men have multiple wives as well. It's acceptable for them.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

..... Maybe they mean thats how many COUPLES got married last year ... Not the amount of PEOPLE ... ? i dont know, im just guessing, because i think that just makes more sense. Haha (:

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(marriage?): haha yes lets hope its that :P otherwise im truly confused...............

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Everyone shut the fuck up.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

its quite obvious that one person got married, divorced, remarried, thus 3 people. That also makes the polygamy thing valid, even if there are multiple marriages, there would still 1 person involved multiple times, who would only count once. And the numbers are most likely from the US , since 4 million people getting married in a year in the whole world is quite few.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hey now, why do you assume that since it's not from the whole world, it's from the U.S.A? It could ba another country...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Okay this could be for the whole world not just the country

by Anonymous 13 years ago

guy married a girl, got deviorced the same year and married another girl same year. 3 people got married then

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't understand why people have to argue with rude comments to get their point across. I mean can't you just state it without being vicious?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's ironic that OP "don't want to start any trouble" and yet there is a gazillion comments.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I thought I read somewhere that some one legally married the Eiffel Tower and technically that isn't a person.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

sry about stealin your post dude, didn't know.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

who gives a fucking shit?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Mormons and polygamy.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Just polygamy...real mormons don't practice polygamy.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

holy shit get a life rather then arguing over pointless crap with people you don't even know.

by Anonymous 13 years ago
