-6 If you hurt/kill a dog intentionally, it's animal abuse. But when you burn a bug with your magnifying glass, it's not considered bad. Bugs may be smaller, but their animals too. So why should it be any different? amirite?

While burning bugs with a magnifying glass is pretty creepy (reminds me of Sid from Toy Story) I don't feel guilty at all killing mosquitoes or spiders that come out of no where.

They don't coin because their brains are the size of a grain of sand and there are trillions and trillions more of them everywhere.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

*count. Don't know how I screwed that up.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The difference to me is if they're supposed to be there.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

Insects are pests. Dogs are not. They're useful.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

Insects are useful and dogs are pesky to some people.

every living beings is equal, what is the difference between killing a human being and a bug?

by Anonymous 10 years ago

Well, you kill a human and you've affected their entire family and friends. You kill a bug, you probably don't even realize you've done it and I highly doubt there's going to be a bug funeral from its colony.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

You said you don't realize you've done it when you kill a bug, Yes, it mean nothing to you, but for bugs, their life just ended, they are died.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

Sorry, but I have yet to see a bug funeral or bug news reports covering the latest death toll of bugs. When an ant dies, I doubt the queen (mother) gives a shit.

It's you or the mosquito, dude.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

Burning bugs with a magnifying glass is simply a natural disaster on a bug scale.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

Burning a bug with a magnifying glass is unnecessarily cruel. If you don't want bugs to bother you, wear bug spray or stay indoors. But killing creatures that are causing you no harm is wrong. The only creatures that I do kill purposely are mosquitoes or ticks that are biting me and venomous spiders and snakes. This is justified, I think, because they do pose a threat to myself and to my pets. I would kill a vicious or rabid dog just as soon if it were attacking me or my pets.

I do not consider insects as animals, and I disagree with your second sentence. I still consider it bad.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

They are animals biologically though.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

I never said they were not. I said "I" do not consider them animals. Personal preferences I suppose.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

That's like saying //I// don't consider the earth to be round.. it's not personal preference.. you're just wrong.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

While I agree, I think in this case, there is a necessary double standard. Bugs aren't nearly as complex as animals like dogs, and aren't nearly as aware. Plus, you can't really enforce bug killing as a crime. While I might crush a bug every now and then, I wouldn't want to torture one, like you described.
