+181 No one really knows what indigo is. When people talk about the colors of the rainbow, they don't usually mention indigo. It's like, "What the hell is this blue-purple color doing in our spectrum of visible light?", amirite?

And the indigo crayon fucked everyone over.

I always include indigo in my rainbows. :$ People are always like: "Why are you putting blue again? There's only 6 colours in the rainbow." No. There's 7. ROY G BIV. Count the letters, 7. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, INDIGO, violet. >.<

This is probably not true, but my science teacher in highschool had said something about how the person who decided on having 7 colours in the rainbow just really liked the number 7, so he included indigo. Sounds pretty far-fetched to me though.

Yeah, indigo isn't a color of the rainbow anymore. It was just the space between the blue and the purple that confused whoever saw it. ROY G BIV is now ROY G BV, unfortunately.

Indigo was included when the colours of the spectrum were identified. Indigo and violet are technically the same colour but by having 7 numbers instead of 6 the theory was more likely to be excepted. This is because people were incredibly superstitous at the time and the number 6 represented the devil.
