We can't tell we have American accents. No one really gets that their accent is an accent because they are so used to it, so no one knows really how their accent sounds to others.

If I was a guy, I'd imagine some sort of latin-american or french would be sexiest; or atleast those are the usual stereotypes for hot foreign chicks in movies and crap.

New Zealand accents are the best!! :D Not quite Australian...not quite British...it's like a quirky version of an Australian accent. Needless to say, I like New Zealand accents better.

Is the American accent very noticeable to non-Americans? I've always wondered this. I mean to me it sounds like a very generic English as opposed to a fancier British English accent or an Australian accent.

I know it's like this in any country, but there are TONS of American accents. I like in Chicago, which has a pretty generic accent. If I drive four or five hours south, I can notice a Southern accent on people right away. Every different region in the US has a different accent pretty much and we definitely notice it. I am so used to hearing our diverse accents that I have never wondered how did our English transform from the old English to what we have now. There just appears to be a giant leap between the English I'm used to hearing here in America than the English that used to be spoken in the past that I'm assuming has a great resemblance to a British accent.

Are you from Atlanta (that's pretty much where they all meet)? Because from my experience, people from Atlanta or other big cities in the South, have a much less southern accent than those in rural parts of the South.

For men, British, Scottish, Irish, Australian, or new Zealand accents are really quite attractive. I have a friend in Canada, and he has told me he can notice how my accent(im from Ohio) is different than what he hears in other states. So, I guess people do notice different regional American accents.
