You could make the same arguments about polygamy that you could about gay marriage, amirite?
by Anonymous13 years ago
And incest
by Anonymous13 years ago
exactly. And eventually, it may lead to the argument of marrying animals. I fear that day.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I don't know about animals, that's pretty drastic.
But really, I have yet to hear someone say that a brother and sister should be allowed to get married (provided they have a genetics test so their babies aren't screwed up) but there are a helluva lot of people who support gay marriage.
Just think that's interesting.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I do think that animals is drastic. But all it takes is a couple of activist judges. 200 years ago the thought of gay marriage was crazy, yet here we are. I hope it never happens, but it might.
by Anonymous13 years ago
No, animals can't talk, you made an interesting point about polygamy and now you're just being ignorant, sorry.
Hmm, interesting, you may be right about the crazy people. However, until we get animals to talk, it'll never become legalized because you need consent from both parties to have a legal marriage.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I sure hope so, but God knows they'll find a way around it.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Well I'm sure I'll be dead by then, the next generations corrupt politicians can deal with it, haha
by Anonymous13 years ago
hahahaha. I sure hope I'm dead by then.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Gay marriage isn't hurting anyone, while incest can lead to birth defects. Also, about bestiality, two people in a gay marriage LOVE each other. You can't tell if an animal loves you. Not to mention theres the issue of CONSENT.
by Anonymous13 years ago
What if they get a genetics test to determine whether their kids can/will have defects? (Also, the effects of incest are overstated in today's society. Kind of like we thought if you had AIDS you were gay.)
And the whole animal marriage is stupid.
by Anonymous13 years ago
well I don't think there could be a test to see if your kids WILL have defects... there is always a chance that they could and a chance they might not. Depending on the couple, and the random genes they inherited, the gene pool might not be too small, but there will MOST LIKELY be a greater chance, unless somehow the siblings somehow get complete opposite halves of their parents DNA. You will never know what the child's genes will be unless you somehow isolate the sperm and egg first.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Well of course, but there's also a chance a random man and woman will have a child that has birth defects. There are tests to see if two siblings are more likely to have a handicapped child than a random couple. Should nobody be allowed to reproduce because they might have a handicapped kid?
by Anonymous13 years ago
well i really don't care about incestuous couples unless there's such a large age difference that it becomes pedophilia... but I don't like any pedophiles period... Though honestly, I think that if there is a good chance the child will be handicapped, I'd say consider adoption... those kids need love too
by Anonymous13 years ago
No, the point of marriage is to have two people in love joined together forever. Polygamy defeats that purpose, whereas gay marriage doesn't.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I don't personally support polygamy (seems like too much work) but what's to say you can't be in love with more than one person?
by Anonymous13 years ago
I think you can be in love with more than one person, but I don't think you can marry more than one person. Like I said, the point of marriage is two people in love.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I agree, but it seems to me that two people can be in love without getting married. Marriage seems more like a legal thing these days.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Who's to say the point of marriage isn't for a man and a woman who love each other? Like, I don't know, the majority of Americans.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Well, I personally believe that marriage is for two people who love each other because I've seen both gay couples and straight couples who you could tell were deeply in love. But I've never even seen a person with two or more partners that were okay with sharing him/her.
by Anonymous13 years ago
That doesn't matter. If someone wants to get married to multiple people, who are you to say they don't all love each other? What do your personal beliefs matter?
by Anonymous13 years ago
My personal beliefs matter because it's extremely rare for people in a polygamous relationship to all love each other. Like I said, I've never even heard of a loving polygamous relationship. If there were enough polygamous relationships for it to actually be problematic for them not to be able to get married, then I suppose it'd be all right. But all the relationships I've ever heard of that had more than two people were unhappy with it.
There's a large enough population size of gays in happy relationships that would like to get married that it's a problematic for it to be illegal.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Whether theres 4 or 1 million, they shouldnt be treated any differently, right?
by Anonymous13 years ago
Well if there is 1 person who has a loving polygamous relationship and wants to get married but 12,000 people who would take advantage of being able to marry multiple people and cheat on their current spouse, it's not worth letting that one person marry the people they love.
by Anonymous13 years ago
You don't think guy friends can take advanage of gay marriage to cheat on taxes?
by Anonymous13 years ago
Well, a girl and a guy who are friends could take advantage of straight marriage to do the same thing.
by Anonymous13 years ago
A lot less likely
by Anonymous13 years ago
How is it a lot less likely? It seems a lot more likely to me.
by Anonymous13 years ago
what about incest?
by Anonymous13 years ago
I know this is crazy but I don't understand the problem with polygamy. So you love multiple people...I'm not saying it should be legal...
by Anonymous13 years ago
FINALLY! I agree with OP. What's the similarity between polygamy and gay marriages? People thought they were insane, albeit different timeframes. Anyway, one of the main arguments behind polygamy is to stop men from having maritial affairs. Or you can argue that the men to women ratio is unbalanced :/
by Anonymous13 years ago
well u can have like an "open relationship"
by Anonymous13 years ago
there wouldn't be any arguments if people learned to mind their own buisness. if you're not gay then don't worry about it, it doesn't concern you so why bother sames with polygamy.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Two people who love each other absolutely deserve to get married, why aren't they allowed to just because they're gay? It's extremely unfair discrimination, it's not like gay people choose to be gay. In fact, that's why people sued over it in California, and that's why it's most likely going to be legalized there, because it is an unjust discrimination against basic rights. Also, the main reason people don't support gay marriage is religion, but church and state must ALWAYS be separate, meaning that any state that bans gay marriage may as well outlaw every other basic right provided to us.
by Anonymous13 years ago
The words "separation of church and state" are not in the Constitution. Or the Bill of Rights. Or the declaration of independence. They were written in a PRIVATE letter from Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptist addressing a concern regarding a specific state-enforced denomination. People like to apply those words to the First Amendment which was meant to keep the government out of church. It was NOT meant to keep faith-based principles out of government. The Church of England was a institutionalized religion and corrupt church because the government had their hands in it. We wrote the First Amendment because we didn't want that happening here.
by Anonymous13 years ago
But go ahead and ignore my comment, since you have no way of arguing against it.
by Anonymous13 years ago
1.) Doesn't that mean that if two peolpe love each other they should get married even if one is already married to someone else?
2.) If church and state should seperate (Which I agree with) then they should be able to marry on paper, but whether a church marries them or not should be up to the church, not the government.
by Anonymous13 years ago
1. gay marriage has been legalized in CA. so all you haters can suck my rainbow dick.
2. what ignorant person has the right to decide who can and cannot get married. there was a time blacks and white couldnt marry.. everyone thought that made sense.
3. and about the beastiality.. i must admit, its a valid point. because when the women's suffrage movement succeeded, my cat got the right to vote as well..
by Anonymous13 years ago
You republican bastards and your god can suck my dick!! You are some of the most ignoramt people ive ever seen.
by Anonymous13 years ago
hahahahahaha. you cant call me ignorant unless you can spell it. have a great day
by Anonymous13 years ago
Yeah... but we don't need a reason to make it legal. You need a reason to keep it illegal.
