+411 It's ironic that England is messing with the U.S. for calling 'football' soccer when they were actually the ones that gave it the name soccer . amirite?

Heh. Yours is a lot shorter.

Hah yeah. That's cause I was too lazy to go in to the technicalities of it all.

Fair enough.

Soccer is short for Football Association

Most of the language things that the British call "Americanisms" are actually from Britain. The book "Mother Tongue" by Bill Bryson goes into detail about how American English is closer to Shakespearean English than British English.

How ironic.

Neat! And the Brits are always going on about how we, Americans, talk "wrong." D;

by Anonymous 13 years ago

To be fair, I know a lot of people who say the same about the British. ^_^

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Those silly Brits, always bugging us about stuff that absolutely does not matter. :P Gotta love those cheeky bastards. :)

I-rrelevant. lol. Flame wars over such stupidity.

I do think its stupid to say American english and british english are diffrent. I mean they are but idk if this is true about the UK and all but in america most people talk a lot diffrently from others. like go up north to new york or something they use diffrent words to describe things go to the south its the same and in the west the same thing happens

yeah in Britain there are loads of different accents and ways of saying things. For example, people from England sometimes find it difficult to understand people from Wales, Scotland or Ireland because of the different ways of expressing themselves. Even within England-Newcastle, Birmingham, Liverpool etc.
