Good non-fiction is a better read than good fiction, amirite?

Gasp! Nobody else shares my love for Malcolm Gladwell or Bill Simmons?
by Anonymous13 years ago
nope.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Yeah, I probably should've realized that. This site's demographics don't sound like big non-fiction fans and this definitely confirms that

bill simmons is great.

Have you read his Book of Basketball? It's pretty ridiculous haha
by Anonymous12 years ago
I've always wanted to read that, but I don't want to buy the book and I've never gotten off my lazy butt to get a hold of a copy
by Anonymous12 years ago
Personally, I just like all the profiles of his "pyramid". I'm a fan of basketball, but not a crazy fan especially when it comes to history so you actually learn to appreciate the guys from the 70s and 80s a lot more.

I've read nearly everything of his.
Do you read stuff by Peter King and Rick Reilly as well?
by Anonymous12 years ago
I've read some of their stuff, but not too thoroughly. They are great though
by Anonymous12 years ago
yes, better in terms of knowledge.
no, better in terms of entertainment

Non-Fiction books can be very entertaining, you just have to pick something that's interesting
by Anonymous13 years ago
It depends for me. I really liked one of Frederick Douglass's autobiographies and a couple other nonfiction books, but I read way more fiction.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Most people do read more fiction just because it's "fluffier" and easier to get through. My philosophy is if I'm going to spend the time to read a book, I better learn something from it. I know you can learn from fiction books too with like themes and stuff, but I like to learn something tangible.
by Anonymous12 years ago
My problem is I've tried to learn from non-fiction before and it can be really enjoyable, but I just don't care a lot of the time.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Yeah, it's really up to the author whether they can make something sound interesting or an argument seem worthwhile.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I don't like it when they try to make it sound more fictiony by adding unneccessary description or something that just makes the book longer and more annoying without adding any needed information. It's like they're trying to make it more interesting and failing.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I guess it depends on what you're looking for.

Cough harry potter cough lord of the rings cough cough cough

Fiction is more imaginative. Even if it is a little high-tale, it keeps the child in me alive.

Either can be interesting, I like to read everything that has a good story.
