+127 You didn't know that human pregnancies are actually ten months long, not nine, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Why does everyone say their 9 then?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

***they're***

by Anonymous 13 years ago

actually they are 40 weeks long, which is roughly ten months

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No they're not And it brings us back to my post a few days ago http://www.amirite.net/180394

Actually I just went to the doctor with my pregnant fiancee, he told us they are ten months, just the first month people don't know they are pregnant. You are pregnant from the first day of your last period.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Technically, a woman is pregnant whenever the egg is fertilized and attaches itself to the uterine wall. The egg is released two weeks after menstruation, during ovulation. The missed period is just a reference point.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Technically yes but they don't count it from that day, they count it from the first day of the last period twas all i was saying :)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's 10 if you count it like the first day of the 10 months you say it's 10 months. It's 9 if you count it as another month after the first day marking 9 months to make it a full 9 months.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

yes yes i agree, but a pregnancy is technically 10 months start to finish that's all I was saying :p

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No, it's 9 if you count it right.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

so all the doctors are wrong according to you?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No, that's actually what a doctor told my sister. smirk

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Girls count it by how many weeks they are and they calculate their date by the first day of their last period. so how would your theory be true

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't think you understood my comment if you're calling it a theory. Some people might count August September October November December January February March April as 9 months because April would land on the number 9. Technically though it would have to May for it to be 9 months so you could completly finish the month of April.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I understand what your saying, and yes you are right for what you are trying to prove, but that's not what i'm saying. All i was trying to show is that yes there is 10 months in a pregnancy. Girls count from weeks unless they are exactly three months they wont say that, they will say 9 weeks or 10 weeks. and that's what doctors expect to hear when they ask how far a long you are. I was never trying to say what you are saying is wrong, I'm just trying to say a whole different point.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

When you said how could your theory be true, I had to make sure you even knew what my "theory" was. And no, there is not 10 months in a pregnancy.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Girls start counting weeks from the first day of their last period. There are 40-42 weeks in a pregnancy. That works out to 10 months. Look on all the pregnancy sites to calculate how many weeks along you are, if your a week past your missed period it will say your 5-6 weeks.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Lets put it this way. You are actually PREGNANT, like have a fertilized egg inside you for 9 and a half months. from the marking point of the first day of your last period it's 10.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So lets say that I just ended my period the first week in January. In February I was late and found out that I was pregnant, but the pregnancy actually began in January. So we have January, then I found out I was pregnant, so we have February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, and I have the baby in October. That's ten months, even though I only knew I was pregnant for 9 of those months. See?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Just read all the below comments they'll explain.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Weird, I thought sex had something to do with it..

by Anonymous 12 years ago

They're 40 weeks long.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Exactly. 40 weeks from today would be May 24, 2011.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's 10 months if you count from the last period of the pregnant woman.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

40 weeks. nine months. heard that before but im pretty sure the 10 months is incorrect

by Anonymous 12 years ago

its ten months after the penis was inserted into the vagina

by Anonymous 12 years ago

if that were true, our population would be triple its current size..at least.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

lets say 9.5 and call it a day

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's whenever the baby feels like it dammit

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Everyone agrees that pregnancy is forty weeks, but then they try and claim that it is nine months. Make up your mind. FORTY WEEKS EQUALS TEN MONTHS. I don't see how this is arguable.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

40 weeks is only 9 months, each month (save for february) is longer than 4 weeks, and each of those extra days add up, and so it only takes 9 months to get 40 weeks, not 10. That's why there's 52 weeks in a year, and not only 48. For this reason, this post is incorrect.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So you are saying that you can get enough extra days within nine months for it it to equal 36 weeks instead?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Wait, yes you can. I had a dumb moment and I apologize.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's 9.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

it's often said as nine given that anything after 37 weeks is deemed full term, though often you'll see pregnancies going to 40 weeks.
