+1,003 There isn't one fictional tv show that accurately portrays high school, amirite?

I've blown up freedom, learned the hard way, lived on love, eating my way to heaven, brought sexy back, smoked my world to pieces, drank the poison, shot the guard, licked the land, gave grace a helping hand, swore the bullpen off, lifted tree to the air, gone aloft with feet bare, cried faithful tears among the wind, smiled an ear to ear grin, bought a hunk of trying true, now my dear I'll always love you :)

That's why it's called fiction...

But even so, shows like The Secret Life Of The American Teenager constantly claim that they realistically depict high school...when in actuality, they don't. At all.

I'm talking about "fictional" ones though, that's what this post is talking about. Fictional shows are meant to be sort of an escape from the troubles of life...like Glee and such.

When I said "fictional", I meant shows other than reality shows...which doesn't exclude shows that claim to be realistic, like the Secret Life. But I see where you're coming from.

Boy Meets World came pretty darn close.

Best. Show. Ever.

I love Boy Meets World! It's always on ABCFamily really early in the morning now. (:

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Really?! You're awesome!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Bahah, thanks! :D It's on at 7am Eastern time. :b

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, I looked it up, that makes me so excited!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not really... I watch that show and... no.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I said close, not exact. And I don't watch show you were watching, but Boy Meets World is very close to real life. Maybe your life is the one that doesn't fit the stereotype.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well... Degrassi is kinda close?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(...): Ummmmmmmm..... sure? It came closer than Secret Life of the American teenager. But it's like everything bad that could happen at high school does. lol

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(...): i was just thinking that :)

I think pretty little liars come kinda close except for all of the weird messages they get...

Mean girls highlighted all the stereotypes and made them interact better.

Freaks and Geeks is pretty damn close.

One Tree Hill.

The thing is, most shows only portray the scandal and the worst of the gossip, to make them more interesting.

I was gonna say Skins, but then I remembered, that's college.

My highschool might have been different from your high school, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think that someone should start a show where they secretly film a highschool for 2 weeks. They then air the entire filming, not just the juicy stuff, in episodes. They then move on to a different highschool, and repeat.

My So-Called Life back in the 90's? Came close I thought.

Everyone high school is different. I know in mines there really wasn't any cliques ( popular, nerds, jocks).
