At first I'd thought the random "popcorn" was a typo (well maybe not a typo, but something like that). But apparently "popcorn reading" is a thing? :P

EVERYBODY CALM THE FUCK DOWN! I gewgled it...popcorn reading is when the teacher starts off the reading by calling out a student, and when that student finishes their sentence, another student has to randomly start reading outloud without any instructions fromthe teacher.

There are other versions too. Like one student reads however much they want to read, whether it be a sentence or paragraph, then they call on another student of the class to read. Either that version, the version you said, or one where the teacher randomly picks a student each time someone reads. These are all different versions of popcorn reading... All of which are stupid.
