Face it, the only reason people say Eminem raps about life instead of weed and such, is because they've only heard songs from Recovery, and the select few about life from previous releases. amirite?

Eh, not really relapse is essentially the only album "devoted" to drugs. Seriously both the slim shady l.p and marshall mathers l.p are about ems life.

Hahaha, the song "without me" talks about drugs in it. So, no eminem doesn't only rap about life. However, his stuff is muuuch deeper than most rappers, and muuuch better. He's not like "YOOOO BROOO. Get moneyyy! Go smoke a blunttt yooo!"

Well I dunno what to say about this, 'cause I dunno who's said what and who's heard what, but I don't often claim that Eminem "only raps about life" or whatever, I just say he's brilliant, and that some of his songs are deep/meaningful. I've heard ones that don't seem to be about life, or deep or anything, (like Stay Wide Awake, ...And I know there was more but I forgot them. :( ) and I still think he's amazing and that those songs are brilliant. :)

Most of his cds are about life, the eminem show, encore, relapse (while it's about drugs its about how drugs affected him badly, it wasn't him rapping lets go out and get high yayy cause i get some shawty on the dancefloor yayy), and now recovery. I believe his first two albums starting out weren't that way, but once he got a hang of his music and realize his direction it was. Sure, each album has songs about drugs and raping women etc etc on them like every rapper sings about. But they're not the majority of his discography, unlike every other rapper out there, at least that I've heard of.

All rappers have songs about their lives, its just that Eminem's extremely straightforward, whereas some rappers talk about what they wish their life was like, and forget to mention that they're hazing the truth. Nonetheless, Eminem falls victim to the predictable rap flow of sex, drugs, violence. Look at "Soldier" and "Superman". Even so, a lot of his stuff is brilliant. "Guilty Conscience" and "Stan" will go down as hip-hop classics. The problem is that all you listen to is the rap on the radio, which is more like "hardcore pop", at best. Come visit me in Queens. I'll show you some great underground shit that'll blow your mind.

Lots of rappers rap about their lives and their reality (but like you said, some of them talk about what they wish it was). The reason so many people people like Eminem is because they can relate better to his reality and the situations he talks about.

What's with this "most rappers" talk. I bet the majority of people who make posts that generalize like that probably couldn't name 10 rappers whose songs they actually know. Just because music executives know which songs will sell doesn't mean that they are even close to indicative of the majority of rap music or artists.

He does rap about drugs, but that's only because that's a part of his life. He didn't one day randomly decide to do them, he's struggled with addiction since he was little. He's mentioned that in quite a few songs, in fact, "My Mom" of of Relapse is all about that. He DOES rap about life, HIS life, EXACTLY the way it is.
