+590 Girls: You sleep in the most awkward positions to be "safe" and try to be comfortable during that time of the month. amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know I shouldn't, but I sleep in a tampon to avoid this. I get to sleep however I want on my period as long as I set an alarm to wake up early and change tampons.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I've never heard you're not supposed to do that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're not supposed to because you might accidentally leave it in too long and increase your risk of TSS.

TSS normally occurs after about 10 hours of a tampon being in. 8 hours is the recommended time to take them out but really it's still safe. 9 is even safe, but it could be risking it. So really having a tampon in is ok, as long as you don't sleep in much. I only sleep in them when I have school, that way they only stay in a maximum of 8 and a half hours.

I know about all the risk and junk, I just generally wake up after 6 hours so I don't bleed everywhere.

Yeah, if you leave a tampon in for more than about four to six hours you can get Toxic Shock Syndrome, which is a disease that can kill you. So unless you're not getting enough sleep, sleeping through the night with a tampon in is pretty dangerous.

My box says you can leave them in up to 8 hours. Maybe it's just the kind I use though...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh.. Good thing I stick with pads, I suppose.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"I sleep in a tampon"? That must be a pretty big tampon...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's only a super... I can usually leave those in up to 6 hours with no problem (at night at least). That's not really that impressive considering the maximum recommended length to leave one in is 8 hours.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

they mean it sounds like you meant you sleep inside a tampon even though you meant you use a tampon while you sleep :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I get that now. Excuse me, I'm lightly medicated.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Since we're on the topic, I've never really worn a tampon partially because it seems too painful, yunno, sticking things up there and all...pardon me, that was a little graphic. Anyway, when it's that time of the month, I sleep in a position that resembles a log so no accidents leak. When the morning rolls in I jump out of bed and check my sheets to search for any accidents, because dried blood doesn't wash out, it's best to wash your sheets immediately after an accident takes place.. so I've been told.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ya it's probably being a littlle overprotective but if I wake up at all in the night I check for accidents and if a can't fall asleep I keep getting up to check

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Nope, I sleep exactly the same as every other night. Super tampons do the trick. To everyone disagreeing in the comments above me: You can leave a tampon in for up to 8 hours, not just 6, read the pamphlets. Leaving it in for 10 hours won't give you TSS. That would take days or weeks to get. The only time you'd ever get TSS from leaving a tampon in for over 8 hours is if you already had the TSS bacteria in you. You aren't ''never ever supposed to'' sleep with one in. As long as you don't sleep for much longer than 8 hours, that's perfectly fine. The disease doesn't have some clock that makes you immediately get it after 8 hours and one minute. TSS is rare. It was common when tampons were first invented because of the material though. Tampons don't hurt. They're clean, easy, reliable and comfortable, you don't even feel them.

Ugh, I know. I have to sleep stick straight on my back or I feel really weird. Then I wake up with serious back pain.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i just like eating tampons and not putting them in at all
