+455 it's ridiculous how the library rated Harry Potter as ages 5 and up. I'm pretty sure it's more intellectual than a 5 year old. amirite?

Lol. At what age did you start reading them?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Seven...

I dunno, really... I mean, I started them when I was 7, and I know people who read PS when they were even younger... then again, I also know people who could never have read them at a younger age than 10 - nowhere near enough IQ :P

Am I the only one who read them last summer? :'( ... Yeah, I think I am. I just wasn't into HP, but one day, after watching the movie marathon, I went to the bookstore and bought all of them! I wanted to know what will happen. I finished them in a week and 3 days. :D And I'm a fan since then. But I could never say that I grew up with Harry, I was born in 95. :(

I started reading them when I was in year one so.. five.

I started reading HP when I was seven. By the way, when you say "it's more intellectual than a 5 year old," wouldn't that mean that the book itself was smarter than a five- year- old?

I feel pretty lame now. I tried to read the first book when I was like, 8 or 9 but I didn't really understand what was going on so I never read them until like, 10 months ago. D:

I started reading Harry potter when I was six...

I still voted "yeah, you are" because I don't think most 5-6 year olds would want to read Harry Potter, but I started reading the series when I was 6.. so it's hard to say.

The first few are for younger kids (although 5 is a little extreme) but the later books definitely require a lot of thought.

I was 7 when I started I think

I read my first HP when I was 5 ;P EXCEPTION TO THE RULE

I think the rating is about the content, too... the first 2 are pretty PG, so I think that's accurate, but from PoA on the subject matter starts to get a little darker, and I'm not so sure 5+ is appropriate.

My school library rated Harry Potter at a 3rd grade reading level. I think 5 and up means that you have to be at least five years old to understand it, not that all five year olds should be able to understand it.

I read the first one when I was 4. Just saying.

I read the first one when I was five, but I read it with my dad. Admittedly, I understand them a lot more now that I'm older, but the first three books are good chapter books for younger kids who love to read.
