That would be called fear of the unknown. Thats why relgion was created.

If there's an afterlife, it certainly isn't like heaven. There's not an old bouncer standing at the gates who decides if you get in, you don't stand on top of clouds, and people wouldn't have wings and halos. No one knows what it's like, but that idea is ridiculous.

If you think about it, we were in that state of nonexistence for billions of years already, before we were born. Our lives now are just a short blip of existence between periods of nonexistence. I seemed to be fine with not existing before I was alive! It seems scary to think about the permanence of death, but it's just all the more reason to appreciate your life while you can still live it.
