It's because when things work in our favor, we barely notice because we think that's how it should be... when things don't go our way, it's a freakin tragedy.
That being said, sometimes it *is* true; my sister is the child of my mom and stepdad, and my mother hates my dad, so there were many times I caught her favoring my sister.
