Basically the number system is a way for people to judge other people based on how they look, even though a huge amount of people in our country are obese, if not morbidly so. http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/trends.html In other words, it's a way for people who are insecure to "rate" people who are usually more attractive than they are (especially online), if not more intelligent as well.
