Unless you are at hollister, where the lighting is so dim you'll look good in almost anything.

Yeah, it's because of the lighting that they use. A good tip is to walk out and look in the big mirror in the changing rooms instead of your 'stall'. It helps a little.

For me they usually look better in the fitting rooms, then awful when I look at the clothes at home. :(

that wouldn't make any sense. they want people to look good in stuff so they buy more. the problem isn't really the mirrors (they're actually designed to make you look skinnier) but the harsh fluorescent lighting i think.
