Let's make Amirite law

Somewhat tangential, but one of my teachers used to say that anyone who actually wants to be a politician shouldn't be allowed to be one.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That's absurd! Some people, such as myself, want to become politicians in order to help.

I don't understand. If someone wants to be a politician, why shouldn't they be?

I could be completely missing the point and have my head so far up my ass it may never come down but I'm going to take a shot at it: I think it's because if you actually want to help, you wouldn't be able to handle politics. I don't like this wording, but it's all i can think of: You would be too "soft."

Because in the long run, we're going to have to deal with it for longer than they are. Also, older people don't always understand what exactly is relevant in the present day. They're still thinking of what would have worked in the 70's or the 80's when that might not even be possible anymore.
