I'm kind of proud to say I've made enough of an impact on my school for pretty much everybody to know me. Especially people in my classes. Also, a lot of people do that to look funny AND if you happen to not be "popular" they're doing to make it seem like someone as extremely cool as them wouldn't even know you.
