It was also written by American writers without any consultation with the Japanese team, but that is where the basis for most Giovanni ideas come from. That, and the fact Ash and Giovanni have never met face to face.

He is never seen, and rarely mentioned, but Delia/Hanako (Eng/Jap) mentions him once early in the anime series, during a phone call with Ash. The audience is left to believe he is training to be a Trainer.

At one point in the series they showed a picture of Ash's dad. He had a shady face, but his dad was there in one of the cities during his Kanto journey.
