If it's illegal to kill yourself any other way, then it should be illegal to smoke cigarettes, amirite?
by Anonymous13 years ago
Driving in a car can kill you, should we make that illegal too?

Holy shit I was just staring at the home page and suddenly my week old post got homepaged right before my eyes. I feel so badass.

You can say the same about too many other things
by Anonymous13 years ago
Ya but if you smoke, it's pretty much guaranteed that you will die from it. You can't say that about anything else that's legal.

using an air freshener is unhealthy for your lungs too, if you breathe it in for 9 hours a day you will die sooner too, should we make that illegal too?
omg and alcohol is bad for your health as well, we shouldnt be able to sell it to people!
wow, this world is crazy.

No, it's not guaranteed you'll die. An estimated 1.45 BILLION people smoke in 2010, do you really think 1.45 billion will die from smoking? That'd mean roughly 22% of deaths are due to smoking, which is just not true.
I'm not defending smoking, but your logic here is just wrong.

Touche...You do have a high risk of dying from smoking than you do of playing Russian Roulette though. I researched it this time ;P
by Anonymous13 years ago
That is true, however I still don't think it should be illegal. Smoking brings in precious tax dollars for the government that I don't have to pay. I'm all for that.

Personally I'm for banning tobacco and making marijuana legal. Marijuana is less harmful, and you actually get pleasure from it. Plus, more taxes, and those dang Mexicans won't have a reason to come over here anymore.
by Anonymous13 years ago
First of all, we don't know the long term effects of marijuana. It could be harmless, but it could be very harmful. The jury is still deliberating.
Second of all, people do get pleasure from smoking.
Third of all, if you want the tax money, why ban smoking in the first place? It's counterproductive to your anti-Mexican plan, which doesn't make any sense.
by Anonymous13 years ago
your third point makes no sense. i said make marijuana LEGAL.
by Anonymous13 years ago
But if you're legalizing marijuana for tax money, why not keep smoking legal for tax money as well?
by Anonymous13 years ago
You're saying money is worth, sometimes innocent, lives?
by Anonymous13 years ago
Obama smokes, so this could never happen. I wish our president had just an ounce of self discipline.

No states list suicide as a crime anymore. It is considered an unwritten "common law" crime, which prevents people from being able to have a lawsuit unless they can prove that the person who committed suicide was of "unsound mind." In that case they can sue someone for not providing proper care of said suicidal person, etc. Otherwise you have personal liberty to take your own life. Thus this post doesn't even make sense.

Who came up with it being illegal to kill yourself? What would they do, put your body in jail? :P
by Anonymous13 years ago
In some places, attempting (but not succeeding in) suicide can be punishable by law. It's because that when you commit suicide you are creating a lot of trouble for other people, like dealing with the corpse and what to do with the person's property. This is in only some places though. In the US, suicide is not a crime. Not only that, but there is a huge difference between deliberatly attempting to kill yourself and smoking cigarettes. If you smoke, you can still die from causes not related to smoking.
