By the way, it's yen :P 3000 yen= about $30 250 yen= about $2.50 You don't get a lot, though. You're right about that. And the battles only give about 100, at most, each in the beginning, when you need the supplies :/

Actually, they're called Pokemon Dollars, although the symbol is based off the yen sign. http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Dollar

I always just thought they left took out the dot. So they gave you 30 bucks and zero cents. And it is pretty fine if you translate it like that. After some battles you get like 2 bucks, but the elite four is like 30.

There are so many battles by the time you can even acquire lemonades, so I don't see the problem. Also, with the exception of Diamond and Pearl (and possibly the Johto games), there are least three gym battles before you reach the department stores.
