Oh yeah, it'll be a great freaking day when any enemy nation can trounce right into our country and ruthlessly attack our citizens, bomb our buildings, steal our things, and rape our women all because of a cute liberal catchphrase. Get real. Also, there is no significant correlation between education spending and education success. The problem is not a lack of funding. It's a broken system fueled by a government that can't tie its own shoes, and hindered by an out of control teachers' union that has never once considered that maybe education is about students, and not government parasites that call themselves teachers. Not to mention a complete lack of competition among schools, as each school has a monopoly on their district, eliminating the need for real results. Not to mention that the federal government pays for the military, and has no Constitutional authority to fund education. Which pretty much renders this entire slogan worthless. I hate political slogans.

hi Canadian here. I know Americans throw half their money to the military. Something close to a trillion dollars. Well here in Canada we spent only 21 Billion this year and we don't have any issues such as people who "ruthlessly attack our citizens, bomb our buildings, steal our things, and rape our women" In fact this year crime has been at its lowest in 30 years. I think you are the one who needs to get real. More money for schools equals better equipment, more motivated staff and with that comes a higher success rate. Its sad when people put the over-paid military above the poorly funded education system. But based on your opinion It's like totally working for you guys!

Canada spends no money on their military because they don't have as much money as the USA and because they're protected by the USA military. And please show me the correlation between education spending and better results.

A lot of the money we're putting into the military right now is for work in other countries like Iraq. We're trying to help other people, not going crazily overprotective. And the US military is pretty big if you haven't noticed, it requires a decent amount of funding.

I'm sorry, but what country would attack Canada? I'm Canadian, and I know for a fact that our country is not one of military importance.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

@Gavin you also have to remember the population difference and who is a global superpower

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Boo you

by Anonymous 11 years ago

What OP is really saying is that we should focus on re-establishing our education, which does take money and a huge upheaval. After that is done we can give huge expenditures on other countries. Plus, you just disproved your own point. Our spending on our military isn't on protecting us. We could cut our military budget in half and still have plenty to protect ourselves.

(yay_im_wrong) Which comment are you replying to?

Yours and pather's

That's what I thought, but I wanted to make sure before I replied. What I said wasn't about this post, it was in response to Gavin going on about how Canada is spending less money on the military than the US. I was saying that it isn't really a good comparison because of how much bigger the US military is than Canada, and how the US is much more involved in other countries. I fail to see how I disproved my own point, I was giving two different reasons that the US spends so much on the military.

I thought you were supporting panther's point, but I stand corrected. Either way, I think that the money we are spending right now in Afganistan, while has good intentions, should be saved for a time when we /have/ money to spend.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That's a good point, and I do agree that he US should prioritize its spendings on things like the military. I just think that all the money we're spending for other countries' benefit should be considered when American spendings are compared to those of other countries such as Canada. On an unrelated note, you need two slashes for italics. Not trying to be rude, just trying to help.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

oh, thank you, actually. I've never known how to //actually// do italics. I certainly don't think the military should be in shambles, and I think military should come first, to a certain point though. We spend vastly more on the military than education, and I know that pouring money won't help, but money //will// be necessary for an overhaul.

Christ, people. Calm down- try viewing this from a different perspective. Maybe OP means this in the sense that the Air Force (or any other military organization) won't need the money anyway- the world would be more peaceful so our society would have shifted it's priorities to education because strong defenses weren't as necessary.

Thank you, this exactly how i saw it. I also pictured miltary men dressed out in their uniforms but with pink aprons tied on.

"Guys, the enemy nation is only miles away from invading! We need 2,000 fighter planes, but in order for that to happen, y'all need to bake some goddamn brownies!"

"it's a good thing we have soldiers from well funded colonary art classes or we would be fucked!"

This is not your statement. Please give credit to the author or at least put it in freaking quotations.
