+369 It's odd that American kids want to receive Hogwarts letters. It has been well established that there are multiple schools of magic so obviously American kids wouldn't go to a school in Europe, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

...but my american school was never mentioned in the books, so i need to want to go to hogwarts, or it's nowhere.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not true. There was a mention of a Salem's Witches Institute somewhere in the books or in an interview that was most likely located in America.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Fine. Would YOU rather go to 'Salems Witches Institute' or 'Hogwarts'?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Definitely Hogwarts because it's the top wizarding school in the world.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Right. So even if there is a school in the US (which yes, i totally agree is completely possible) i would much rather go to the best school in the world than the only decent one.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah totally true.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That was in the fourth book. And I'm pretty sure the people from there were African American...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't think all the people from Salem Witches Institute are African American. Maybe just the people who were at the quidditch world cup.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I guess. But Salem doesn't sound very American. Plus, it's only for witches/females.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

they've confirmed its an American school though. But yeah.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Salem sounds American- The Salem Witch Trials!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's because in real life we burn witches.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

STILL it would be ten times better going to Hogwarts because it's the top wizarding school in the world.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

best in Europe maybe but non-magical schools are never compared across the Atlantic so why would magic schools be?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because they say even in the books that Hogwarts is the best school in the wizarding world.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And because there are only a handful of wizarding schools.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oxford is better than Harvard or Yale, that doesn't mean we all cross the ocean for college.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If you got accepted into Hogwarts I'm sure you wouldn't pass it up. I would definitely cross the ocean for college.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But I thought the black kid was from the US? I thought someone was from the US in the books.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Nope, they're all from the British Isles

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Dean Thomas. I was thinking that, too, but apparently not.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think he was just a muggle-born

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Nope, I'm British. Just Muggle-born. :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I waited for years to get my letter T_T

by Anonymous 13 years ago

For my birthday this year, two of my friends made a letter and delivered it to me with a stuffed snowy owl, saying, "It's only 3 years late- it must have gotten lost!" :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'd rather go to Hogwarts than the Salem Witches Institute. Let us have hope, dude!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I've planned on going to school in Europe for quite some time.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They would probably have to pay ridiculously expenisive tuition...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't think Hogwarts has tuition.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You could always go to Pigfarts. Oh, no you can't because it's on Mars. You need a rocket ship.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Even if a wizarding school in America and Hogwarts were evenly matched, I would still want to go to Hogwarts. I mean, these are European boys we're talking about..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well thanks for ruining my hopes and dreams! Aha(:

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Salem Witches Institute, does that mean it's a girl's only school?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think they mentioned an American quidditch team too, so there is definitely a prominent wizarding world here in America. Also, the wizarding school here obviously doesn't accept people until they're 17, which is why I'll be receiving my letter on my next birthday. I realize that I've said that every year, but it's going to happen.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That would make sense, in America it wants to train us after we come of age. Two more years then :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

sure it does, Tom Riddle needed financial aid to go to school

by Anonymous 13 years ago

He needed financial aid to pay for his wand, robes, and books. Not tuition.
