As above, it was Russia waay before. And if you want to get technical (and I know you do), it was still Russia while it was part of the USSR...it was officially the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, which became the Russian Federation after the USSR fell apart.

well, most people know that russia was part of the soviet union, so they just say soviet russia. doesn't really mean anything.

Soviet Russia means Russia between 1922 and 1991 when it was part of the Soviet Union.

Yes, Russia was a PARt of the Soviet Union. However, it was not Russia a country after the USSR broke apart.
