+231 It's really saddenning when so many people tell you that long distance relationships never work, especially when your own relationship is about to go long distance, amirite?

They only don't work if it's not real.

If everyone keeps saying it, then shouldn't there be an ounce of truth to it?

It's not like anyone thinks it's made up? It happens to a lot of people in long distance relationships. But people break up all the time, maybe it wasn't even because being long distance. But that doesn't mean it NEVER works and that it won't for you. Most people end up breaking up, but that doesn't mean you will during a long distance relationship.

So because everyone in the 1700s was saying that black people should be slaves, that has an ounce of truth to it? Makes sense to me.

Im in one right now, and it does work if you put effort into it. He's coming to see me next month :)

I have had an experience where it worked just fine. January 1st is our 5 year mark and the long distance happened over years 2 and 3. On the other hand, I have known people who said it's really hard but it can work if you take the time to talk to each other on the phone or just do something that doesn't let you become emotionally numb from missing them, which turns into not caring and eventually "falling out of love"

I have been in a long distance relationship for two and a half years. They definitely can work as long as both people put effort into the relationship. You have to keep things exciting even though you don't see each other all the time. Phone calls, flirty texts and Skype are all really handy. The one other thing I feel is necessary is faith and trusting your partner. But I think that goes for any relationship.
