It depends, really.

Yeah, we're about to foster some kids who had an lazy, non-working, psycho, abusive mother. We are well-off, and can easily support them. But, if we do get them, she'd have to pay US child support. It really depends. But for divorce, yes I think the husband should.

I was trying to say that sometimes child support is not need. Sometimes the other parent can't afford to pay child support.

I think it should differ, depending on each case. If the husband is in a low-paying job, he should pay accordingly. I especially if the woman doesn't work.

Yeah.

sadly that isn't the case. My dad wound(?not sure if its the proper word) up paying my mom 75% of his check, which was already astoundingly low like legally in poverty low. She spent all of it on clothes and make up for herself. I told him and he stopped paying her all together. I was extremely okay with that

My friend's ex wife is asking for $2600 child support for her their two kids, knowing he only makes $1800 every month. So he can't afford to give them child support and live... So, no, not always.

Well the judge could just decide an amount for him to pay.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

judges tend to be really biased. and most states give women the upper hand in legal terms. i wouldnt doubt it if he was left with 300 a month for himself

Or wife. And its not a matter of paying or not paying. Its a matter of whether or not they deserve jailtime due to lack of payment. And that my friends is a huge resounding no.Just repo theyre shit. Save jail for killers and rapists and extortionists and shit.

I serve people who don't pay their child support! Lol

Courts will not ask a person to pay more child support than they make... UNLESS THEY WERE ALREADY NEGLECTING IT. Child support is set up on a percentage of income. If they owe back support, it's no one's fault but theirs; they should have been making the more reasonable payments all along. If you can't afford a baby, don't make one- condoms are cheap. I believe people should *absolutely* go to jail for not taking care of their children... spend every day off work they have there until they're caught up. You're not entitled to any fun if your kids are in need.

That actually depends on the state you're in. Besides that, a good lawyer will take everything from you. Presenting the right evidence and neglecting the stuff against you can seriously help in a court battle

At least in my state, the law is that if you don't pay, you go to jail for a month. This, of course, makes it impossible to earn another paycheck, to pay for the next month. Again, you don't pay, you're back to jail. It's a vicious cycle. So yeah, I agree. There should be some other form of punishment.

Yes, like I mentioned; simply make people report to jail for *all* of their days off. If they don't report, they get in more trouble.

It depends on the exact scenario, I accidentally voted no. Men really get screwed over in this situation, though. Not only do they only get to see their children for one day every other week, but they also have to pay thousands on child support.
