+531 It is impossible to prove your own existence to someone else. I could be a figment of your imagination for all you know. Your father/mother/brother could simply be projections, things that don't exist. The only thing we will ever be able to prove to ourselves is our own existence, not another's existence. amirite?

you got mind fucked by inception too?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Everyone's mind got fucked by that masterpiece...

(ArnoldVan Der Walt): <3. agreed.

Deeeeeeep

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I always think about this! It's a relief that I'm not the only one.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I haven't seen Inception but I've always thought that. One day you could wake up and someone who's been with you your entire life could be gone and your memory of them could be complete washed away. Maybe they were never there...

solopsism

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Solopsism is the name that I gave to the fact that everything that was, is, and will be, is in fact, all a product of me. All that was, is and will be comes forth from my existence. In other words, it's all in my head.

I'm not the only one! :D

Someone needs to stop watching Inception.

Inception<333333

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Fuck... I want to see Inception...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Dude, the saying, "pinch me, I must be dreaming" exists for a reason. So obviously other things exist because I'm pretty sure that if you step out in front of a moving truck, it'll hurt, or you'll die and NOT wake up like in a dream. And if you "projection" mother pinches you, you'll feel it and why would a projection created by you hurt you? It wouldn't. FAIL.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

if she was a projection by you, there are going to do what you want them to do in your subconscious mind, and sometimes your conscious mind.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

A projection created by you may possibly hurt you, as it is a projection of your subconscious and you cannot control your subconscious.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

does pain mean reality? if we all, in fact, weren't real, how could we know? if our reality wasn't truly reality, we couldn't rightly say what proves reality, right? (and we do exist...but the question is, by what standards? for, even if we were merely figments of imagination...we would exist, in some form...) i feel pain in dreams. and...have you ever died? who's to say, when our hearts finally stop beating, that we don't all simply escape the shells of some past, long dream, and enter a world entirely different from our own?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You aren't the first one to think about this. A philosopher named Rene Descartes thought of this a long time ago. He said that the only thing one knew for certain was that you existed, ("I think, therefore I am"). He made a point about how your senses can deceive you, so how do you know if anything exists? He also made a point about how maybe, instead of a "good" God, there's an "Evil Deceiver" that is making you believe that what you see around you is there... according to this philosophy, you cannot prove that anything you know is true. For example: "the sky is blue" can then be followed by "how do you know?" The answer to this is "because I can see it's blue" but, what if your eyes were seeing a misconception? what if it's not blue?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That is so true, and my mind is completely blown.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

that's so great! (but, just because this idea isn't original, doesn't mean that it's less of an idea.) someone out there must have had this idea before Descartes, right? we couldn't know, either way, anyway... oh...and my mind is blown, as well :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

agreed (:

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Read some DeCartes, people. It's not that complicated of a concept, it has nothing to do with Inception. You have no evidence, however, that other people don't exist, while you have observed teem existing, thus, it is only logical to assume that they do unless you encounter evidence to the contrary.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

although I agree with you, you have to keep in mind that there is no real way to prove they exist either (:

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I've thought about this for years.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Me too. We have no idea what is real and what isn't. For all we know, we could be the shadow or the reflection of another person

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I thought I wasthe only one wo thought like that! I told myself that I would believe everybody was real when I had kids.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i'd just like to say (in my opinion) that this -our world- is indeed reality; it is the only thing we know as real so how could it be otherwise.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

as well, if our world was just a figment of our own imagination, then we must all be very uncreative, because we all have the exact same imagination

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you're all insane... everyone living exists. It's funny that I have to explain the obvious. There is such a thing as "over-thinking" and this is happening right now.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's spooky.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

looks like someone just finished watching Shutter Island

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How can we prove that WE exist? How do we know that ourself, what we see in the mirror- is really there?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

we can't prove that we exist to others--hell, we can't prove that others exist. but, because we know ourselves and our perspective...to ourselves, we exist. we must. "i think therefore i am" lol

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How do we know we're thinking? thoughts can be programmed. Just because we know ourselves does not mean we exist, we also know others, but as OP pointed out, we can't prove others exist.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

we exist in our own little world. we prove to ourselves that we exist to some degree because we think, and we are present in some situation/perspective. by asking the question How do I know I'm Thinking?? you know that you are thinking. but we can't prove that we exist on a grander scale, or that the other people around us exist, of course.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't know that I'm thinking, i never asked that question. I could be AI and not know it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

what does AI mean? and yes, perhaps, by the world's standards or by many other standards, perhaps you don't exist. but you exist in your own perspective. and what i meant to say is, you know you're thinking if you're brushing upon this topic. you know you're thinking when you write words, or when you form that opinionated post or comment.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

artificial intelligence look it up. who says im thinking, im not thinking

by Anonymous 13 years ago

so you honestly believe you aren't thinking?? if you were AI, that proves that there are others who gave you your intelligence...proving that you do exist, though perhaps in a different manner than you supposed. but you are thinking, you are proposing ideas and wondering.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

that would mean that this post is wrong, if i could prove others exist. :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well, i suppose...yeah, if you were of artificial intelligence, i guess you could be certain there was something, someone bigger out there... also...the people you see, the world you see...exists, even if it doesn't really exist by normal standards. so...you can prove your own existence because of thoughts...but then, if these people are only projections from your thoughts...that means they exist, i suppose! so i guess this post isn't exactly right. but none of us are exactly right, anyway... :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

if i cant prove that others exist, i cant prove that i exist either. its as simple as that. either it's all real, or all fake.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i wouldn't say so. everything has a hint of realness to it. everything, in some way, is real.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

then the post that this person made is completely inaccurate.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Who cares. Live a good life. Don't worry your little inception-fucked head about it. Great movie tho. :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Woah..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I feel sorry for all you people just getting into this fad of 'thinking' due to a film. I have never seen the film and have no real pull to. I think you will find the harder thing to prove is if you are actually awake.
