I cross my eyes for a couple of seconds

Just close them. Dizziness is caused by your eyes telling you that you've stopped and the inner ear telling you that you're still moving (cos the little things that move around in there to tell you tour orientation are still spinning). Thus, your brain gets confused and can't decide whether to keep balance muscles static or moving, so you feel like falling, but don't go straight down. I'm a geek. I know.
