+909 In movies, if there's a new student, a teacher/principal introduces them to the entire class and makes it all awkward, but in reality, you've never really seen it happen. The new kid is sort of just, there. amirite?

I got introduced like that one time.

That's how I was introduced. All my teachers were like "This is a new student here...blah blah blah. Make him feel welcome"

Me too; it was über awkward. Especially since I was moving from a huge, city school to a tiny rural one... as if the culture shock wasn't bad enough =/

I just moved across the school district, but I moved from the ghetto/gangster side to the preppy rich kid side so it was still really weird.

Yeah, in fifth grade, my new teacher stood me in front of the class and introduced me just like that. I think she even wrote my name on the board

Yes! There was a girl who joined my art class, but I thought she was just a guest visiting the school... Two weeks later, she's still there and I still don't know her name.

I've been introduced like that at every new school I've gone to.

I saw a girl once introduced like that in year 8 but other than that they are just sort of there.

When I moved I had to stand at the front and introduce myself

That happened to me all the time when l lived in Asia. They make you give a little introductory speech too. :(
