I love seeing my favorite characters die off because it gives me a strong emotion. I love strong emotions when they're taken from entertainment. That means the author is doing a good job.

I'll bet J.K. Rowling could write a death scene for Percy that would leave readers tearfully begging to have him raised from the dead.
